Time Allotment: 1:50 hours (September 18-21, 2023)

Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of:
Politics and political science, governance, political ideologies, power, states,
nations and globalization.
Performance Standard
The learner is able to clearly identify a specific phenomenon and how it can be studied.

Learning Competency
Recognize the value of politics (HUMSS_PG12-IA-4).

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
● Differentiate the traditional and modern views of political science.
● Map the relationship between politics and political science.
● Produce content that expresses the value of politics and political participation.

b. Motivation

Have the students prepare a sheet of paper for writing then, students will
be given 5 minutes to write sentences about What is the importance of politics?
How can it help in understanding society?
. (Note: Students can do freewriting for the given activity. Freewriting
means writing a rough draft about everything that comes to mind., without
consciously checking the grammatical accuracy and cohesion of ideas.)

c. Activity

Let the students form a group of four members. Assign a color for each member: white,
red, yellow, and black. The group is given a maximum of 10 minutes to discuss and
agree on a unified position or resolution to the given problem. However, the participation
of each member is limited within the specific role assigned to him or her.

Colors Role

Provide only the facts and information about the problem.

Speak only about the ideals and principles that the group
should uphold.

Propose solutions or alternatives to the problem.

Critique or cast doubt on the proposed solutions.

The issue:
Should curfews and travel restrictions be continued even after the coronavirus pandemic?

d. Abstraction

After the activity, the students reflect on their responses about the lesson. Politics
affects our daily lives. It changes the way people live.

Political Science

● Combines findings from history, economics, geography, psychology, among
others
Focus on the study of ‘power’

Power is having the ability to make others do what they would otherwise not do.

“It is not merely a study of state and government. It is the study of power, its exercise, and
the struggle for its sake.”

Normative Approach

● What should be the ideal society, the distribution of power, the limits of freedom, etc.
● Concepts of justice, human rights, moral obligation, etc.

Empirical Approach
● Provides scientific character
● Gathers quantitative and qualitative data
● Applies statistical and mathematical analysis to political phenomena

Similarities
Both concerned on the same things:
● Human interaction
● Cooperation and conflict resolution
● Government decision and allocation of resources
