Advanced Planning System For Made to Order Goods

Our client is Australia is a lean manufacturing consultant who works with 50+ custom production manufactures with SKU cost ranging from
few hundred dollars to half a million dollar.

Majority of his clients use excel sheets or a very basic online tool like smart sheets or monday.com which is not sufficient to run a made to
order custom manufacturing pipeline.

Example product may be a window blind (always made to size), or a Pickup truck's back tray (custom orders) or Bullbars and Bumpers for
trucks.

Key Challenges
o Pricing - each product is priced based on specification needed
by customer
o Complex Manufacturing Steps - each product may involve 20+
steps from 3d design, drafting, ordering no-stock components,
cutting, wielding, polishing, assembly etc.
o Capacity planning and Scheduling - since each product is
custom order, its difficult to plan ahead and give proper ETA and
understand the critical choke points internally.
o Inventory Management - optimizing inventory is difficulty, with
some long lead time items and running length stock.
o Multi tier business - Since some of the business is generated by
dealerships and field agents, business may not have visibility to
contact with end customer.
o Sales to Design to Manufacturing Handover - Since these are
complex products, sales talking to customer needs to
understand requirements properly, then handover to the design
and then design handovers to the manufacturing, information is
often lost of misrepresented in many of the cases. This results in
customer dissatisfaction, additional cost and time.
