Calculate vital indices.

Solution:
Vital indices that can be calculated from given information are – crude birth rate, crude death rate,
growth rate, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate.

 Crude birth rate = number of births during the year x 1000

mid-Year population
= 3000/ 300000 x 1000
= 10 births per 1000 mid year population
Crude birth rate of the given population is 13.47 births per 1000 mid year population

 Crude death rate= number of deaths during the year x 1000

mid year population

= 7.17 deaths per 1000 mid year population.
Crude death rate of the given population is 7.17 deaths per 1000 mid year population

 Growth rate = CBR-CDR

= 10- 7.17= 2.83 births per 1000 mid year population.

 Infant mortality rate

= Number of deaths of children less than 1 year in a year x 1000
Number of live births during the same year
= 145/3000 x1000
= 48.3 infant deaths per 1000 live births
Infant mortality rate of the given population is 48.3 infant deaths per 1000 live births in that

pregnancy , child birth or within 42 days of delivery from puerperal causes in an year
during a given year x 100000/Number of live births during the same year
= 04/ 3100 x 100000
= 129 per 100000 live births.
Maternal mortality rate of the given population is 129 per 100000 live births in that year.

 Neonatal mortality rate= number of deaths of children less than 28 days in a year x 1000
number of live births during the same year
= 40/2500 x1000 = 16 neonatal deaths / 1000 live births
Neonatal mortality rate of the given population is 19.99 neonatal deaths per 1000 live
births in that year.

 Infant mortality rate= number of deaths of children less than 1 year in a year x 1000
number of live births during the same year

Infant mortality rate of the given population is 29.2 infant deaths per 1000 live births in
that year.

 Maternal mortality rate =

number of female deaths due to complications of pregnancy, child birth or within 42 days of
delivery from puerperal causes in an year during a given year x 1000
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Number of live births during the same year in the same year

= 3/ 2500 x 100000
= 120 per 100000 live births.
Maternal mortality rate of the given population is 2.44 per 1000 live births in that year.

b. Crude birth rate …… 30/1000 population
c. Crude death rate …… 15/1000 population
d. Infant mortality rate …… 70/1000 L.B.
e. Maternal mortality rate …… 6/1000 L B

Solution:
a) Number of live births-
Crude birth rate-= 30/ 1000 population
Mid year population = 70000
If, for 1000 population 30 births
For 70000 population ?births
So, By cross multiplication
total number of live births = 30 x 70000 = 2100 live births.
1000
Total number of live births in the given population for the year 2023 is 2100.

b) Number of deaths-
Crude death rate-= 15/ 1000 population
Mid year population = 70000

If, for 1000 population 15 deaths

For 70000 population ?deaths
So, By cross multiplication
total number of deaths = 15 x 70000 = 1050 deaths.
1000
Total number of deaths in the given population for the year 2023 is 1050.
c) Number of infant deaths-
Infant mortality rate-= 70/ 1000 live births
Total number of live births= 2100

If, for 1000 live births 70 infant deaths

For 2100 live births ? infant deaths
So, By cross multiplication
total number of infant deaths = 70 x 2100 =147 deaths.
1000
Total number of infant deaths in the given population for the year 2023 is 147.

d) Number of maternal deaths-

maternal mortality rate-= 6/ 1000 live births
Total number of live births= 2100

Crude death rate of the given population is 3.75 deaths per 1000 mid year population.

 Growth rate = CBR-CDR = 10- 3.75= 6.25 births per 1000 mid year population.
 Infant mortality rate=number of deaths of children less than 1 year in a year x 1000
number of live births during the same year
= 70/2000 x1000 = 35 infant deaths / 1000 live births
Infant mortality rate of the given population is 35 infant deaths per 1000 live births in that

2000+65 2065
= 31.48 per 1000 total births
Still birth rate in the year 2023 for the given population is 31.48 per 1000 total births.
