ABSTRACT

PATAGAN, JEANEVIVE DELA CRUZ; RAMOS, GEMMA ROSE

TAMBONG; JUSTO, ANGELICA SAMIA; College of Agriculture, Occidental
Mindoro State College, Murtha Campus, Murtha, San Jose Occidental Mindoro,
Philippines, May 2024. Assessment of Organic Farming Practices on Soil
Characteristics and Productivity of Solanaceous crop in Sablayan, Occidental
Mindoro.

Adviser: Arleen U. Dela Cruz

This study was focused on the impact of organic farming practices on soil

characteristics and productivity of solanaceous crop. The study was conducted in

Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro from April 2023 to December 2023. Soil laboratory

analysis was conducted at DA-Soils Laboratory, Region IV, Lipa City, Batangas in July

2023.

Farming practices included land preparation, water management, and

fertilizer management. Soil characteristics will include only some physical characteristics

like bulk density, aggregate stability, depth of topsoil, soil texture, and chemical

properties such as soil pH, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, and percent organic matter

content. Chemical properties limited only to the composite samples collected from four

identified potentially organic farms. Other data was based on the farmer’s respondents’

description. Only the famer owners of organic solanaceous crop practitioners was

selected as respondents.

Farm productivity focused in solanaceous crop production/yield within three

years under year 2020 to 2022 with two cropping seasons. Furthermore, the identified

organic soil in this study was based on the list the initial interview at the farmers in

Sablayan Occidental Mindoro.
