WASTE REDUCTION PRACTICES

CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Samsung Electronics is engaged in efforts to focus on a
circular economy. Going beyond the conventional practice
of using resources once and discarding them, Samsung is
working to ensure that products can remain in use longer,
and that resources can be optimized at end of life by
recovering, recycling and reusing them after the product’s
[1]
lifespan. [2]

Zero Waste to Landfill

Waste Recycle Rate

96%
Samsung achieved a waste recycling
rate of 96% in 2021. In addition, their
semiconductor business sites
accomplished zero waste to landfill
for the first time in the industry.

Their zero waste-to-landfill

initiatives are officially verified
through a third party. They will strive
to have all of their global business
sites attain zero waste to landfill
certification shortly and to level up
the grade of the certificate as well. [7]

Use of Recycle Resins in

PLastic Parts
Samsung is significantly expanding the application of
recycled resins in plastic parts used in products —
50% of plastic parts by 2030 and 100% of plastic
parts (by weight) by 2050. [8]

Galaxy S22
The Galaxy S22 series smartphones used recycled,
otherwise ocean-bound, waste materials to reduce
environmental impact. In the future, Samsung plans to
expand the application of ocean-bound plastics to all
Galaxy products to help users pursue a more sustainable
lifestyle. [9] [10]
