Enhancing the heat transfer coefficient of a fluid is beneficial in almost all thermal systems where heat needs to be rejected.
The heat transfer coefficient for a typical fluid system depends on numerous physical quantities related to the fluid and the
geometry of the system through which the fluid is flowing. Under conditions of constant heat capacity and density, the heat
transfer coefficient increases with the thermal conductivity of the working fluid and decreases with viscosity. Therefore, in
order to provide a net positive effect on the heat transfer coefficient, the contribution from enhanced thermal conductivity
must outweigh the detrimental effects resulting from increased viscosity. Working with a variety of heat transfer and
lubricating fluids, we’ve demonstrated that Nanofluids allow for significant increases in thermal conductivity with minimal
changes in viscosity.
The addition of high thermal conductivity particles to a fluid increases the fluid’s effective thermal conductivity. However,
micron-size or larger solid particles can prove problematic as they either precipitate out or lead to excessive wear of
components in the heat transfer system. On the other hand, engineered nanoscale particles behave differently than coarser
particles: they can be dispersed well in fluids of different types (e.g., oil, water, grease). More importantly, interfacial effects
at the nanoscale, between the solid particles and the fluid, lead to beneficial thermal properties. The Nanofluids are
produced by a proprietary technology where functionalized nanostructured particles are produced in the fluid of choice,
forming a concentrate that can be diluted as required. It is through this proprietary technology where nanoscale additives
remove the hazards of agglomeration found in past technologies micron-sized particle fluids.
As a consequence of “pulling” heat away from the source, Nanofluids present several benefits. For example, an
enhancement in the heat transfer properties of gear oil can reduce thermal degradation of the oil and erosion of the gears
due to heat, hence reducing downtime and maintenance costs by allowing for extended operation. Conventional oils will
suffer rapid degradation when exposed to high temperatures for extended periods of time; conditions frequently found in
differential gearboxes and especially typical of military vehicles and equipment which is operated in severe environments
and under extreme operating conditions. Lubricants containing engineered nanostructured particles can enhance both
thermal and tribological properties, while overcoming issues commonly associated with dispersed nanomaterials, such as
the deterioration of other critical performance criteria.

Keeping your equipment cooler by transferring heat from your fluids, greases, and components faster than legacy products
Engine oil not only lubricates parts to reduce friction it also transfers heat from internal component to external components.
Nano Pro MT™’s advanced Nano Particles increase this rate dramatically.
When excess heat is removed faster, engine oils and parts last longer increasing your ROI

• During use, the VI improvers can sheer down and break apart, causing the viscosity of the oil to
decrease. Remember, exposure to high heat is the biggest factor in causing the sheer of the viscosity-
index improver.
• Heat collapses oil films, causing accelerated abrasion and scuffing conditions.
• Hot oil shortens the life of filters and seals and accelerates corrosion.
• Both oil and grease are more prone to leakage as they become less viscous
• High surface temperatures can form carbonaceous gum and resins. (Varnish) (
Lubricant Failure = Bearing Failure
When bearings fail, only a small number of failures are caused by material fatigue.
Most failures are caused by a condition that usually can be prevented.
Typically, the causes of bearing failure can be traced to:
• Harsh operating conditions
• Faulty storage, handling and installation
• Poor lubrication
Avoiding Lubricant Failures; Bearings fail for many reasons, but improper lubrication is at
the top of the list, according to a variety of studies:
• Improper lubrication: 40% to 50%
• Improper mounting: 25% to 30%
• Other causes: approximately 20 %
• Reaching the natural fatigue limit: LESS THAN 10% of bearings fail due to age
