CHAPTER I

RATIONALE OF THE STUDY

This study is all about the parent’s occupation and also the academic

performance. Parents are primarily involved in raising children in every

society, where the child learn the skills, attitude and behavior that could

mold them into successful one. In facts the first year of child’s life is when

mothers are likely to work full time or to work at all. The facts that people

are more concerned about how mother work affects young children mirrors

the finding of research in developmental phycology and neurobiology, which

suggest that some periods of early childhood are particular critical and

sensitive for a child’s brain development.

There’s a varying perspective regarding when parent’s employment is

more likely to affect the bonding process between the mother and child. In

this case, the parent’s employment has an advantages and disadvantages to

the academic performance of student. The advantages are that the parents

can actually support their children financially and can provide all the needs.

But the disadvantage of it is that the child would not likely participate on

class activities at school and their behaviors became risky. Example on it is

that they will know how to use or take an illegal drugs and drunk an alcohol

because they’re lack of attention from their parents. No one can monitor

their academic

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Akujieze (2013) the occupational status measures

social position by describing job characteristics decision making, ability and

control psychological demand on the job. Occupation is ranked into most

prestigious occupation and lower ranking occupation. Education are which

most often goes with high occupational status means that the parents will be

able to provide the necessary learning facilities and assist the child with

school work (Moula, 2010). However, (Grant & Ray 2018) stated the

education is the process of acquisition and mastery of specific skill as well as

other vocational training at home, school, or any other institution. An ideal

learning process should enable learners to relate class theories with practice.

Besides this process should impact the values and virtues of a good

education system must connect to parents and students and also other

aspects of society (Tyler, Rhis & Coleman 2018). Vincent and Neis (2011)

noted that there is a shortage of parent’s participation at the secondary level

that may negatively affect academic progress. Parents are their children’s

first teachers. If children are to be successful in school parents must be

actively involved in their children’s, academic lives by increasing parental

involvement negatively influence children’s academic success and

performance.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

Research design

Our study uses non-experimental design because it does not control any

variable in our study. These variables are Parents Employment and Students

Academic Performances. the type of non-experimental research is

correlational research design. Its main objective is to examine the

relationship between our variables.

Research Respondents

The chosen respondents of our study are barangay; Bulak, Manlapay,

Lamak and Pawa. Among the 4 barangays we will choose 30 respondents in

a random selection. It is composed of 15 boys and 15 girls.

Research Instrument

Our questionnaire consist of 1-10 question were in the respondents are

going to mark a check on the given responses described as agree, disagree

and neutral to determine how employment of the parent’s affect the

academic performance of the students.

PRESENTATION, ANAYLISIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Table 1: Parents Employment and Students Academic Performance

Frequency Percentage Weighted Mean

(f)
%

Agree 9 30% 2.66

Disagree 17 57% 2.04

Neutral 4 13% 1.55

As revealed, a total of 30 respondents accomplished the parent’s

employment status questionnaire. A total of 30 parents that was randomly

selected from the different barangay in the Municipality of Dumanjug

participated in the study. As shown on the table, 30% of the parents agree

overcome parents who disagree have the percentage of 57%. The result

depicted that the respondents are more likely disagree on the status of

employment. Where in, we can see in the table that it has a percentage of

57% with a weighted mean of 2.04. This study emphasized that most

parent’s express contradiction on the status of employment in relation to the

students’ academic achievements, that the parents that are employed have a

negative impact. In our findings

CHAPTER V
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, COCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Parents are the children first teachers. If children are to be successful

in school, parents must be actively involved in their children’s academic

lives. By increasing parental involvement, children’s academic life will

improve. A lack pf parental involvement negatively influences children’s

academic success and performance. As we focus on the employment status

questionnaire, may parents disagree as they might believe that having a job

have an impact that may affect their student’s achievements at school.

Impact of the parents on parental involvement and their child’s

achievement has been of great concern to many researchers. The impact of

parent’s employment is ether negative or positive that may affect the

students’ academic performance. But if we will just focus on the survey that

we’ve conducted, the result is that parent’s occupation doesn’t affect their

child’s achievements at school. Where in, it is clearly stated that student’s

achievement ultimately depends not only on parent’s behavior but a variable

that are often outside of parents’ control.
