Introductory Message

This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, dear learners, can continue your
studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and
discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step as you
discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM. This will
tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to ask your
facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the end of
each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your learning. Answer keys
are provided for each activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.

In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teachers are also provided to our
facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best help you on your
home-based learning.

Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of this SLM.
Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercise and tests. Read the instructions
carefully before performing each task.

If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks in this
module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

Thank you.

This module provides varied activities that will assist you in learning and apply the
recently gained knowledge and skills in determining the conditions that guarantee that a
quadrilateral is a parallelogram and digging out the properties of it and use these to find
measures of angles, sides, and other quantities which can likewise be used in everyday
life.

At the end of this module, you are expected to:

 recognize the conditions that make a quadrilateral a parallelogram;

Quadrilateral is a polygon of four sides. This geometric shapes are visible

everywhere, it can be seen in everyday life. They can be seen in the street signs, in the
foods we eat, in different architectural designs, and even in a solemn place like church.
There are various types of quadrilaterals, namely parallelogram, rectangle, square,
rhombus, trapezoid, kite, and general quadrilateral.
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. Hence, a
parallelogram with four right angles is a rectangle. If a rectangle has four equal sides,
then it is a square. More over, a rhombus is a parallelogram with four equal sides but no
right angle.
A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides. While a kite is a
quadrilateral with two distinct pairs of adjacent sides which are equal in length.
When a quadrilateral has no parallel sides, it is called General quadrilateral.
Now, its time to refresh your mind. Look closely to the following pictures and
specify the type of quadrilaterals being shown. Write your answers on the space provided.

Now that you are familiar with parallelogram as well as rectangle, squares, and
rhombus, let us practice your musical ability by singing the song “I am a Parallelogram” by
Peter Weatherall. Kindly refer to the youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?

“I am A ”
Verse 1 Bridge
I can be a square or a rectangle My four sides are straight
Or I can be over at an angle. But the angles of the corners they make
Aren’t always ninety degrees
Chorus Measure them and you’ll see
I am a parallelogram
I am a parallelogram Verse 3
Adjacent angles add up to be
Verse 2 One hundred and eighty degrees
Opposite sides are parallel

According to Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention (CDC), multiple COVID-19 variants are
circulating globally. One of this is the new variant
called B.1.1.7 that has emerged with an unusually
large number of mutations. This variant spreads more
easily and quickly than the other. At this time, there’s
no evidence that it causes more severe illness or
increased risk of death. This variant was first detected
in September 2020 and is now highly prevalent in
London and Southeast England.
In the Philippines, the B.1.1.7 variant was detected
last January 13, 2021 as reported by the Department
of Health (DOH). The country continues the strict
implementation of safety policies to control the spread
of this virus.
