Culture and Art

1. How important is art in your life? Explain your reasons.

Art is very important in my life because it enriches my imagination, creativity, and emotions. Art helps
me express myself and appreciate the beauty and diversity of the world. Art also connects me with
other people who share similar interests and passions.
2. What is art? How can art be divided?
Art is a broad term that can refer to any human activity that involves creating, communicating, or
appreciating aesthetic values. Art can be divided into many categories, such as visual arts, performing
arts, literary arts, applied arts, and digital arts. Each category can have further subcategories, such as
painting, sculpture, music, dance, poetry, design, and animation.
3. “One man’s meat is another man’s poison.” Talk about various attitudes to
culture and art.
This proverb means that different people have different tastes and preferences, and what one person
likes may not be liked by another. This applies to culture and art as well, as people may have different
opinions and perspectives on what is valuable, meaningful, or enjoyable. For example, some people
may prefer classical music over rock music, or realism over abstract art. There is no objective or
universal standard for judging culture and art, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
4. What types of art are you interested in?
Personally, I am interested in various types of art, including visual arts (such as painting and
photography), books, poetry and music. I am not really a fan of films. I try to watch them from time to
time but I often fall asleep and also my mind thinks that it takes a lot of time.
5. Are there any artists you admire? What do you admire them for?
6. What cultural events (festival, concerts) does your town/ village promote?
My village Lokca doesn’t offer many cultural events. Zlata Heligonka and Remeselnicke Vianoce are
about traditions and folklore. Lokca`s day is celebrating by event called Lokciansky kotlik. It is a
competition in cooking goulash and every year there is invited popular Slovak band so its famous.
7. The level of cultural life in our town, village, region doesn’t correspond with my
needs. Express your opinion.
The level of cultural life in our town/village or region not meeting individual needs can be a source of
frustration and dissatisfaction. It highlights the importance of advocating for diverse cultural
programming that reflects the interests and preferences of residents. Collaborative efforts involving
community members, cultural organizations, and local authorities can help bridge the gap between
existing cultural offerings and the diverse needs of the community.
8. What are the advantages and disadvantages of going to the cinema?
Going to the cinema has both advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantages are that it
provides a large screen and high-quality sound system that enhance the viewing experience, it offers a
wide selection of movies and genres that cater to different tastes and preferences, and it creates a
social and communal atmosphere that can be shared with friends and family. Some of the
disadvantages are that it can be expensive, especially if you buy snacks and drinks, it can be crowded
and noisy, especially during peak hours or popular movies, and it can be inconvenient, especially if you
have to travel far or wait in long lines.
9. Why do some people like going to the theatre? What can they see there?
10. Describe your last visit to the cinema or theatre.
People also enjoy going to the theatre, because it includes the opportunity to witness live
performances and appreciate the talent and skill of actors, directors, and playwrights. My last visit to
theatre was a few months ago. Our tickets were bought in advance and when we came there, we left
our coats in the cloakroom. We found our seats, and after first interval we left them for several minutes
and we talked about the play. When the play was done all actors came on stage and we applauded to
them.

Art helps me express myself and appreciate the beauty and diversity of the world. Art is very important
in my life because it enriches my imagination, creativity, and emotions. I especially experience it
relating with music. I admire a singer whose name is Saul. His song are calming and they always bring
me happiness and suddenly I more enjoy living my life. Not everybody experience same feeling as me.
I think everybody has experienced not feeling same about something at least once, when it comes to
art.

The saying “One man’s meat is another man’s poison.” means exactly what I was trying to say, that
different people have different tastes and preferences, and what one person likes may not be liked by
another. This applies to culture and art as well, as people may have different opinions and perspectives
