Indolence, such as lack of punctuality and failing to follow standards in educational settings, sometimes
stems from the culture in addition to the individual’s responsible attitude. Furthermore, some academic
misconduct results from emotional outbursts that can disrupt the usual demeanor of a person

(Garcia-Rivera et. al., 2022)


Indolence is defined as a process that leads to the appearance of negative attitudes of indifference and
cynicism when dealing with students; persons having high rates of indolence are insensible and do not
worry about others´ problems [92]. It is also described as negative attitudes, irritability, withdrawal, and
loss of idealism. Professors who suffer high levels of indolence have a low service rate and produce a
higher rate of complaints and less motivation in students. On the contrary, Evidence also indicates that
resilience is essential in managing indolence in teachers

We found out that social media sites and boredom resulted individuals to manifest indolent behavior. This
character undeniably affects individual’s self-concept, goal viewpoints and even academic presentations.
The findings and results are indications that students of Jose Maria College somehow manifest indolent
behavior such as surfing on internet which will make them feel like doing nothing. In this regard, students
who have this kind of character also influence their academic aspect. They tend to prioritize their own
pleasure rather than their responsibilities and top priorities. This also affects their time management
which led them to procrastination, indecisiveness and even exhaustion. This following factor really
influences the student’s personal development and academic feature.

Apathetic behavior is considered to exist when the student exhibits behavior characterized by the
following indicators: lack of interest, lack of motivation, detachment from the need to learn, lack of
attention, loss of affection to take advantage of the teacher's explanations, low self-esteem, present in the
school environment, but with a lost mind, restlessness, anxiety, frequent non-attendance, poor school
performance and isolation from the group.
"Impossibility of mood, laziness, indolence, lack of vigor or energy. It is also a disorder of motivation
characterized by a quantitative decrease in goal-directed behavior” (López and Dóriga, 2015).

Academic Indolence refers to unlikelihood or unwillingness of doing academic task.
It may indicate a lack of positive affirmation by others, absence of self-esteem, insufficiency of discipline
caused by low self confidence, or a deficiency of interest in the activity or belief in its effectiveness
(Seltzer, 2018).
