REINFORCED CONCRETE SPECIFICATIONS AND ESTIMATES

Subject: ABTECN4S (ARC 214)

Submitted to: Professor Mark G. Delfin
Submitted by: Orlino, Joshua S.
PART I – GENERAL

REINFORCED CONCRETE WORKS

A.) Cement shall conform to Portland Cement ASTM C150

B.) Concrete aggregates shall conform to ASTM C33 except the aggregates

C.) Water used in mixing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious amounts of
oil, acids, alkalis, salts, organic material or other substances deleterious to concrete
or steel.

D.) Reinforcing bars shall conform to ASTM A615.

E.) Admixtures to be used in concrete shall be subject to prior approval by the

Structural Engineer.

F.) Cement and aggregates shall be stored in such a manner as to prevent their
deterioration or the intrusion of foreign matter.

G.) Core tests and load tests

- If individual tests of laboratory cured cylinder samples produced strength more

than 500 psi below fc’ core test and or load tests may be resorted subject to the
approval by the Structural Engineer.

H.) Mixing of Concrete

- All concrete shall be mixed until there is a uniform distribution of the

materials and shall be discharged completely before the mixer is recharged.

I.) Conveying of Concrete

- Concrete shall be conveyed from the mixer to the place of final deposit by
methods that will prevent the separation or loss of materials.
J.) Depositing of Concrete

- Concrete shall be deposited as nearly as practicable in its final position to

avoid segregation due to re-handling or flowing.

M.) Curing

- Concrete shall be maintained in a moist condition for at least 7 days after

placing. Wet burlap may be laid over the slab constantly applied with water.

N.) Concrete Mixes

- Unless otherwise indicated in the drawings, the minimum 28 day cylinder

compressive strength shall be specified.

- Water to be used for mixing shall be clean and free from injurious amount of
oil, acids, alkalis, salt and other organic materials.

PART II - PRODUCTS

A.) Proportioning of Concrete

All concrete works shall be done in accordance with the standard

specifications for plain and reinforced concrete as adopted by the
government. Cement to be used shall be HOLCIM Portland cement,
pozzolan cement or any other equivalent brands more readily available in the
locality. Alternative cements so selected must meet the requirements of
Portland and pozzolan cements, and approved by the Architect or Engineer
in charge of the construction

Columns and Footings – Class A (1:2:4)

Wall Footings – Class A (1:2:4)

Beams and Slabs – Class A (1:2:4)

Slab on Fill – Class B(1:2 1/2:5)

• The fine aggregate for concrete shall consist of natural sand, or of

inert materials with similar characteristics, having clean, hard and
durable grains, free from organic matter or loam. The course
aggregate for concrete shall consist of crushed rock of durable and
strong qualities or clean and hard gravel. Size of the course aggregate
shall vary from 20mm to 40mm (3/4” to 1-1/2”).

• Cement shall conform to Portland Cement ASTM C150

• Concrete aggregates shall conform to ASTM C33 except the

aggregates

• failing to meet these specifications but which have produced concrete

of adequate strength and durability may be used to the approval of the
Structural Engineer.

• Water used in mixing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious
amounts of oil, acids, alkalis, salts, organic material or other
substances deleterious to concrete or steel.

• Reinforcing bars shall conform to ASTM A615.

• to be used for beams, column reinforcement, and footing

reinforcement as well as for footing tie beam - 16 mm diameter
deformed bar

• to be used for beams stirrups and lateral ties # 16 G.I Wire

• Reinforcing steel bar shall conform to fire resistive requirements of the
ASTM Standard best known for building practices.

PART III. EXECUTION

A.) Concrete Reinforcement

• This section complies with all relevant provisions of the General

Conditions.

• Provide all necessary resources, including labor, materials, equipment,

plant, and tools for the completion of:
• Steel reinforcing bars
• Bar supports and dowels
• Reinforcement accessories, such as wire ties, chairs, spacers,
supports, and other essential materials.

B.) Forms and Scaffoldings

• All forms for concrete shall be properly braced or connected together so

as to maintain the correct position and shapes of the concrete members.

• Forms shall be constructed sufficiently tight to prevent bulging and

seepage of water.

• Forms shall not be removed until the concrete has attained sufficient
strength to support its own weight and any loads that may be placed on it.
Scaffoldings must be properly braced to prevent accidents. Scaffolding
materials may be lumber or steel.

C.) Footing
• Existing underground pipes, tunnels, etc., shall be brought to the attention
of the Structural Engineer for evaluation.

• An excavation adjacent to an existing structure shall be provided with

adequate sheet piling by the contractor. The sheet piles shall be properly
designed to resist earth and water pressure as well as surcharge loading
on the footings of the adjacent existing structures.

• All earth fill supporting ground slabs for flooring, parking sidewalks, etc.,
shall be compacted to 90% proctor in layers of 0.30m. unless otherwise
specified by the structural engineer.

D.) Columns

• All ties shall be fastened to column vertical reinforcement by means of

wires at all intersections of ties and column rebars.

E.) Reinforcement Bars

• All reinforcing bars shall be deformed conforming to ASTM A615-68

Unless otherwise noted in the plans, the yield strength of the reinforcing
bars to be used corresponding to the structural member shall be as
enumerated below:

Fy=40,000 psi for 12mm &smaller sizes (unless specified)

Fy=60,000 psi for 16mm & larger sizes

• All steel reinforcing bars to be used in the construction shall consist of

round deformed bars with lugs, projection on their sides to provide a
greater bond between the concrete and the steel. Sizes range is 10mm
dia., 12mm dia., 16mm dia.

• The steel reinforcing bars indicated for footings, columns, slabs, beams,
girders and other concrete members shall all conform to the number,
size and spacing as indicated in the drawings or schedule of steel
reinforcements.

• Construction joints in walls, slabs, and other structures that are

subjected to water pressure shall be provided with water stops. Kind,
type, and sizes of water stops shall be as approved by the Engineer.

F.) Finishes

• Interior walls shall be of Smooth Plain Cement Plaster finish unless

otherwise specified in the plans.
• Exterior walls shall be of Smooth Plain Cement Plaster finish.
• This section includes Portland Cement Plaster materials
• Floor Finishes- All materials to be used as floor finishes for the rooms
shall be plain cement finish and general areas of the building shall be
plain cement finish
