IV.PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Review
Ask: What was our previous topic all about? (Finding the Surface Area of a Triangular Prism)
Let the pupils find the surface area of the triangular prism below using the formula S.A. = L.A. + 2B

STEP 1. Find the lateral area.

LA. = ph The shape of the base is a triangle with sides 12 m,
= (12 + 7 + 10) (14) 7m, and 10 m. The height of the prism is 14 m.
= 406 m2
STEP 2. Find the surface area.
S.A = L.A. + 2B The base of a triangle. So,
= L.A. + 2(1/2) ∙ b ∙ h) 1
= 406 + 2(1/2 ∙ 12 ∙ 4) B = bh ,
2
= 406 + 48 Where b is the base of a triangle and h is the height of the triangle.
S.A. = 454
Answer: The surface area of the triangular prism is 454 m2
2. Drill/Unlocking of Difficulties
 Pondered - to think about something carefully and deeply
 Summoned - to call upon someone to come to a particular place
 Toiled - work hard and persistently
 Meticulous - being extremely careful, precise, and thorough in attention to detail.
 Unveiled - to reveal or make something known for the first time
 Miniature - something that is much smaller in scale or size compared to its usual or standard form
 Beacon - symbolize something that provides guidance, inspiration, or hope
3. Motivation
Present a 3D Square Pyramid
Ask: What figure is this? How many sides/faces does this figure have?
Do you know what a Pharaoh is? A Pharaoh is an ancient ruler in Egypt. We all know that Egypt is known for
its pyramids. Today, we will take a short journey to a country known for its pyramids – Egypt with a question
in mind: How did Pharaoh Khufu find the surface area of the miniature square pyramid?
Group Reading: First group will read the 1 st and 2nd paragraphs, second group will read the 3 rd and 4th
paragraphs, third group will read the 5th and 6th paragraphs, fourth group will read the 7th and 8th paragraphs,
and the last group will read the last paragraph.
Pharaoh's Miniature Square Pyramid Project
In the bustling heart of ancient Egypt, Pharaoh Khufu pondered a new project: a miniature square pyramid
to honor the gods. Determined to make it perfect, he summoned his architects and scholars to plan.
"We shall build a pyramid with a square base of 25 meters on each side," Pharaoh Khufu declared, his
voice echoing in the royal chamber. "And its height shall be 32 meters."
With the measurements set, the architects set to work, sketching designs and calculating dimensions. As
they toiled, Pharaoh Khufu observed, his mind filled with visions of the grand structure that would soon grace
the desert landscape.
After meticulous planning, the architects presented their design to Pharaoh Khufu. With great excitement,
they unveiled a miniature model of the square pyramid, its sleek lines and perfect proportions a testament to
their skill.
"Now, let us determine the surface area of our square pyramid," Pharaoh Khufu declared, his eyes
gleaming with anticipation.
Using the formula for finding the surface area of a square pyramid, Surface Area (SA)= Lateral Area (LA)
+ B, Pharaoh Khufu and his scholars calculated the total surface area with precision and care, ensuring
accuracy in their calculations.
After a few moments of concentration, Pharaoh Khufu announced the solution: "The surface area of our
square pyramid is 2,225 square meters!"
Joyous cheers erupted from the gathered crowd as Pharaoh Khufu smiled with pride. The small pyramid
would stand as a symbol of devotion and dedication, a testament to the greatness of ancient Egypt.
And so, with plans in hand and hearts full of determination, Pharaoh Khufu and his architects set forth to
bring their vision to life, eager to see their miniature pyramid rise from the sands of the desert, a beacon of
hope and glory for all to admire.

After reading questions:

 What is the title of the story?
 Who is the main character of the story?
 Where did the story happen?
 Why did the pharaoh want to build a square pyramid?
 Do you also believe in God?
 How do you honor your god?
 What is the pharaoh’s problem? How did he solve it?
B. Presentations/ Group the pupils into 5 groups. Let them solve the surface area of Pharaoh
Activity Khufu’s Miniature Square Pyramid using the formula SA = LA + B, with the given
height of 32m and square base of 25m.

Solution:
STEP 1. Find the lateral area.
There are four congruent lateral faces. Let’s find the
areas of the triangles using L.A = 4(
1
∙ b ∙h ¿
2
1
L.A = 4( ∙ b ∙h ¿ 32 m
2
1
= 4( ∙ 25 m∙32 m ¿
2
= 1,600m2 25m

So, the lateral area is 1600 m2

STEP 2. Find the surface area. Use formula:
S.A. = L.A + B
32 m

32 m 32 m

25

32 m

The base is square, so:

B=s∙s
= 25 ∙ 25
= 625 m2
So, the area of the base is 625 m2.
S.A. = L.A + B
= 1600 + 625
S.A. = 2225 m2
Thus, the surface area of the pyramid is 2225 m2.

Check their work by letting them report in front.

C. Analysis How did you come up with 2,225m2 as the surface area of Pharaoh Khufu’s
Miniature Pyramid?
D. Application Group Activity:
Each group will have one 3D Pyramid. They will take the measures and solve its
surface area. Let them solve and report it in front.
Group 1: Square Base = 15 cm, Height = 30 cm
Group 2: Square Base = 10 cm, Height = 20 cm
Group 3: Square Base = 13 cm, Height = 26 cm
Group 4: Square Base = 12 cm, Height = 24 cm
Group 5: Square Base = 7 cm, Height = 14 cm
