Personal essay
The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount
a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you
learn from the experience?

It is said there is no victory without fight and there is no day without a night, life is full of ups and

W
downs but what matters most is your reaction after falling. Do you have what it takes to rise
again. Challenges are there in life to prepare us. Life is not a bed of roses that it goes only
according to your conceptions. There are obstacles here and there and these obstacles I believe
there there to teach you what you haven't understood or mastered, these barriers are there to warn
you to be watchful.
On May 18th 2022 I was very excited the whole day about the following day which it was my
birthday. I slept early that day, that even my mom who was taken to the hospital to deliver the

IE
baby, at night accompanied by my father and brother went and my father and brother came back
without me knowing due to a dreadful sleep I was in. Unexpectedly I woke up at 1am, and then
took my phone and started uploading my photos on my status wishing my self a happy birthday.
My father was online that time that he came to my room and wished me a happy birthday
accompanied with great news that few minutes before he was phoned that my mother had
delivered a baby girl. So me and my father arrenged that time to go to the clinic and we did. In the
way my father told me that my mom was in pain so an ambulance was arranged to pick my mom
EV
from the clinic to the general hospital. As we arrived the ambulance also arrived at the clinic, my
father go off the car and I remained in the car, I was my mother being held by six people putting
her in the ambulance that's when fear was trigger from nowhere into my heart.

When it was noon I there was a missed call from my father, As I returned the call he tried to hide
what had happened but I kept asking till he told me that my mom was no more, immediately I felt
cold, as if I no longer alive , powerless and went in the soccer pitch and lied down in the pitch and I
went home right then.
Of course people motivated me and gave me inspirations but it never made sense into my head

those days. I was working hard at school before but i started to have feeling that the reason for all
my efforts was all in vein, this yielded in poor performances at school. My self esteem was
decreased to the ground. I even felt to leave school but I thank God I never did that.
One morning, a great thought crossed my mind that if keep depressed what will my siblings do.
Right then I became strong help my siblings to recover the wound of losing a mother and also
supporting to father in raising the baby.
Loosing my mother was difficult for me it was also a battle that I lost but I have things that I learnt
from this tragic experience. I learned to boost my self esteem. It tought me to be resilient never to
give up on your dreams. I also learned that one has to always keep pressing because life doesn't
work to our own terms all the time. I also learned that one must alway follow his emotions but
some times here from others that have came across that same situation.
Surely obstacles are there to strengthen you as for me I learned much not because someone
taught me but as the situation was it made me pick up the ball by the horns.
