Personal Essay
The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time
when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the
experience?
STILL TO DO MORE......

One of my biggest fears had always been going to an unfamiliar place but each time I had had the satisfaction of
knowing that I can go home at the end of the day. I was a shy person and it had been difficult for me to express
my thoughts and adjust in a new environment. 'I wish I was invisible' arose in my mind when someone asked me
to express my thoughts, to say something infront of a mass of people and so on.

My family temporarily migrated from village to Kathmandu city for medical treatment of my sister as she could not

W
walk, even stand properly till her age of 3 years. My parents took a single room in rent because taking an
apartment was a dream for family having only one source of income. At that time, I joined my first school near our
room. I was introvert that I could not express my thoughts infront of other people. Upto class 8, I, with no doubt,
can say that none of my teachers and parents could remove my introvert nature from me but I am pretty sure that I
improved a lot in my study.

IE
"Hey Bro! There is special talent inside you. Be extrovert. Express your thoughts. The world is seeking people like
you. Opportunities are waiting for you. You have to push yourself......." One day, a science teacher at my school
told me when I was in 8th grade. Those his lines stuck in my mind like an electric spark. I questioned myself, 'What
made me an introvert?''Why I can't express my thoughts in front of people?' Then I pushed myself to overcome my
introvert and shy nature. I started reading extra books, magazines, newspapers, etc, participating in extracurricular
EV
activities, volunteering in programs, visiting oldage and orphans home, traveling in new places to expose outer
world,: cause-I wanted to do more. I found my special talent in sports and IQ. That time, I realized 'when fears are
grounded, dreams take flight.'

I faced many problems when I look back my past days. But when I remember the little success I achieved, I don't
take those problems as problems but they are the inspiration that made me focused on my study and career.
Problems in my family arose due to poverty. Upto class ten, it was okay that, I got enough educational materials.
PR

My school where I studied upto 10th grade helped me financially by reducing the amount in school fees. After 10th
grade, I joined St.Xavier's College where fees was too much higher than earlier. My parents paid for the bills of
college hardly. I didn't even use to have tiffin to save money for college payment. Yet in my family, problems by
poverty are not over; we three: mother, sister, and I and sometimes four including my father is sharing a single
room as a kitchen, bedroom, and study room. No matter what, we live together happily with motto, "EYES IN THE
SKY, FOOT ON THE GROUND, AND HEART ON THE HAPPY PLACE".

When I joined 11 grade, I was depressed at the starting of session but later on, teachers motivated me and helped
me to be out from being depressed. The vice-principal, Fr.Jomon Jose S.J. used to take 'Value' class and he with
his inspiring thoughts made me develop satisfaction with what I have. He made me believe that 'I am good', 'I am
loved', and 'I am happy'. From college, I got an opportunity to develop self-confidence, leadership, to be
independent, thoughtful, along with the application of theoretical knowledge practically in daily life.

'I wish I was invisible' transfigured into 'I can do anyhow: no matter if I failed, I will try next time again'. I did, do,
and will do struggles to make me perfect. STILL, I WANT TO GO MORE...... STILL, I WANT TO DO MORE.....

No change in progression

Required Explanation
Secondary school change
In our country, most of the students study till grade ten in one school and 11th and 12th in the other. This is the
system where we give entrance examination and get selected to the other school. So, I choose St.Xaviers College
after my tenth. All of us student here have to do this as a part of the educational system.
Therefore I had two different schools with different and vivid experiences.

Favorite Activity/Experience
I participated in an inter-school table tennis competition when I was in 9th grade. As I am a game lover, I used to
play outdoor games a lot mainly table tennis from an early age. In 9th grade, I got an opportunity to show my table
tennis playing skills in front of other people and also, that was a huge opportunity for me to improved a lot in my
table tennis playing skills. In that tough competition, I along with my team secured 3rd position. Though we didn't
secure the first position, I felt great when everyone is cheering to support me and enjoying in mine each shot of
table tennis ball. From that participation and small success, I knew that only academic courses don't make one
perfect but to be perfect one should engage in other extra-curricular activities along with excellence in academic

Why Purdue?
IE
Well managed classroom, small class size, strong academic courses, friendly environment to read, library,
Internet, career counseling, etc are opportunities/facilities that will help me to put more interest in my course-

computer science- inside the classroom. I have an interest in playing outdoor games like badminton, cricket,
basketball, and so many other games and I love to learn and play new games outside the classroom. In this way,
opportunities provided by Purdue University will help me to follow up on my interest both inside and outside the
classroom.
Why Major?
After I knew about Computer Science and its importance and scope, I came to know that its necessity is too high

in this world and more necessary in my country- because while the developed countries are talking about Artificial
Intelligence, the people of my country cannot do small projects independently without asking help from other
developed countries. Intending to change the face of my country and the world through the help of knowledge that
I will gain from computer science, I choose it as a major course in Undergraduate
