Swimming Lessons

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Aquatics is part of the Primary School Physical Education Curriculum.

4th and 5th Classes will start swimming in January. We are delighted to have secured a pool
locally. Two very experienced swim coaches will provide instruction. Swimming is a very
important life skill and it is essential that all children learn to swim.

Lessons will be in Clongowes Pool in Clane on the following dates.

 Friday January 13, 20, 27
 Friday February 10, 24
 Friday March 3
The children will travel to the pool during school time with their teachers. One parent from
each class is needed to travel to the pool to accompany the children. If you are available to help
please let the class teacher know. We would be grateful for both male and female parent help as
the classes are mixed boys and girls.
Swimming lessons, pool hire and transport will cost €60. Please arrange payment through
Aladdin.
**The school is heavily subsidising swimming lessons this year. The cost of the lessons has
increased dramatically due to increased energy costs.**

Some tips for parents:

1. Children should have a swimming bag.
2. Children should wear swim suit to school.
3. Swimming hats must be worn in the pool. Make sure that swim hats can be put on over
hairstyle. Extra towel for children with long hair – and it can be worn back to school.
Children with wet hair may stay indoors for breaks on swimming day.
4. Children should have Arm Bands if they are unable to swim.
5. Children may wear swim socks/flip flops/goggles.
6. Please bring a plastic bag for wet gear (swimsuit, towel etc.)
7. No shower gels, shampoos etc., - the shower is only to wash the chlorine off.
8. Children may wear their school tracksuit on swimming days. Please ensure to label the
tracksuit with your child’s name.
