Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

Students will be able to listen to and answer questions about the panda book. Students will be
able to fill out a worksheet on pandas. Students will be able to make a panda face by creating
shapes, cutting them and gluing the paper pieces to a paper plate.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

Students will actively listen to a panda book and answers questions aloud. Thy will also fill out
a worksheet all about pandas. Students will draw and cut out the shapes of panda ears and
eyes, then glue it on a paper plate to create a panda face.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)
To start, I will have my students come to the carpet and I will read them a book about pandas.
Once I finish reading, I will ask a few of my student's questions about the book and have them
answer aloud. When I complete that I will allow 3 students to share something about the book
aloud. Then I will have the students go back to their seats and we will do a worksheet about
pandas. I will choose lucky ducks (like pulling sticks) for the first few questions to get the
students started on the worksheet. The students will independently finish the rest of the work.
When a student completes the worksheet, I will stamp it to acknowledge the fact that they
were able to complete the sheet. To end I will make panda faces with my students.
First, I will pass out paper plates to all students. Next, I will show the students the final product
of what they will be creating. Then, I will pass out all the supplies that they need to create the
panda face. I will make sure they write their name on the back of the paper plate. As the
lesson goes on, I will give them the directions. The first direction I will give them is to make the
shape of the panda ears. Then, I will tell them to cut it out. Then they will glue it onto the back
of the paper plate, so the ears are poking out from behind. Next, I will have them shape and
cut out the 2 eye pieces. After that, they will glue the black eye piece onto the front of the
plate and then glue the smaller white one on top. Once completing that, they will get a sharpie
and draw circles on the eye pieces and then draw on the nose. When they are done with that,
they will be done making the panda face. To finish off, I will have the students discuss with
their seat partner their favorite thing that they did/learned. Then I will have a few students
share the answer with the class. My lesson will be complete after that.

CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed during the teaching
of this lesson plan.)

I am using the Common Core ELA. My students will be able to answer key questions about
the text. They will also be using reading comprehension to answer the questions on the
panda worksheet.

Instructional Procedures

• Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)
To get the students to focus on my lesson I will start with a book, so they are more
open to learning. I will also tell them the directions as they go rather than beforehand
due to their low attention span. I will also be very encouraging, so they feel motivated
to complete the activity. Also, I will have an example of the final product up, so they
are able to see what they are going to be making.

• Instructional Strategies (Click into that link for help describing all instructional methods you will
employ during the lesson. Remember, instructional strategies fall into one or more of the following
broad categories: DIRECT, INDIRECT, EXPERIENTIAL, INTERACTIVE, INDEPENDENT
STUDY)

I will use interactive instruction while doing my lesson. We will be having a class
discussion at the end of the book.

• Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)

I will get the students on board to participate by showing them the final product of the
lesson so that they are excited to make a panda face of their own.

• Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?

I will check that all students are involved in the lesson by making sure that all of them
are participating and following my steps to put the panda face together.

• Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

I will close the lesson purposefully and intentionally by having the students discuss
with their seat partner their favorite thing that did/learned through the lesson. Then I
will have a few people share their answer aloud.

• Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)

I will assess the students by seeing if they can successfully answer questions about
the book, fill out the panda worksheet, and create a panda face.
Lesson Plan Materials (Include everything needed to successfully complete the lesson with
the full class. Remember to include all supplies, as well as technology, whiteboard space,
classroom space, etc.)
