LANDSCAPING OF TIRUPATHI ROADS
TIRUPATHI.. AN OVERVIEW
Tirupati is a major pilgrimage and cultural city in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is the
largest urban agglomeration in the Rayalaseema region.
It is located at the foothills of the Eastern Ghats at a distance of 150 kilometres (93 mi)
from Chennai, 250 kilometres (160 mi) from Bengaluru, 349 kilometres (217 mi)
from Vijayawada and 550 kilometres (340 mi) from Hyderabad.
It is one of the richest pilgrimage cities of any religious faith in the world.
The stretch to be designed starts from the Tirupathi railway station to the MS subbulakshi
statue for nearly 1.1kms.

OBSERVATIONS
• The design should support the huge crowd from the Bus
stand & railway station.
• This road stretch is the main connecting lifeline road between the bus stand, station & the
hills.The tourist from the railway station have to pass through this road stretch to climb the
hills to reach the tirupathi tirumala temple.
INFERENCE
• Design a secluded Parking space for the 4 wheelers
• Define areas for the Road hawkers to exhibit & sell their their products.
• Emphasising the nodes – MS Subbalakshmi statue, Ambedkar statue & the Gandhi statue
• As Tirupathi is very hot during summers , seating spaces & rain shelters have to provided
wherever need be.

LANDSCAPE PLAN
PARKING
• This space is adjacent to the MS Subbalakshmi statue junction.
• A stop over place before climbing the hills.
• Ample car parking space for 100 cars.
• A park with amenities such as children’s play, walkways.
• Ornamental features like dwarf walls, stone pillars are also used.
• An urban plaza with treepits, seating & rain shelters are also designed next to the
parking and the park.

LANDSCAPE PLAN
MS SUBBALAKSHMI STATUE
• MS Subbalakshmi is one of the Prominent carnatic music singer.
• This statue is erected in her remembrance.
• This is one of the largest node in this entire stretch.
• Cobble stone paving is used around the statue.
• PAVING PATTERN - The BANGLE is used as a concept in this node where concentric
colorful rings of cobble stones in varying colours( Red, Yellow, Black and grey are used
alternatively).

AMBEDKAR STATUE
• The ambedkar statue junction is one another prominent junction where 4 roads diverge in
different directions.
• Paving in cobble stone and the Tree branch concept is brought in using a contrasting color
paving.
• The branching pattern extends itself beyond the cobble stone paving & runs into the road.
• The statue is sorrounds itself with a cicular
symmetrical design with water body and greenery.

GANDHI STATUE
• Gandhi statue junction is located on the commercial zone where this zone is surrounded by
shops, restaurants and hotels.
• A temple abuts this node and there are petrol bunks on either sides on the junction.
• The landscaping around the statue is designed with varying heights of planters and shrub
beds with dense color foliage in a triangular pattern overall giving it a fan shape outlook.
• Cobble stone paving is used all around the statue in a circular pattern with colored arc
pattern.

• Footpaths are designed on one side of the road, opposite to the statues, parking and the
shops.
• The bollards at the edge of the road differentiates the road edge and the footpath
• Zebra crosses are provided near the junctions
• Granite stone pillars and god statues are erected at regular intervals which creates a nice
backdrop.
• These statues bring in a historical and religious significance.

PARKING
• The road stretch beyond the statues is a complete commercial zone.
• All shops, restaurants, the TTD guest house and hotels are located in this stretch as it is in
close proximity to the bus stand and railway station.
• Since it’s a commercial area, there is a strong need for a proper car park.
• A car park is designed for 15 cars.
• Rain shelters and tree courts and seating are provided near the car park.
