Step 1: Reading comprehension exercise.

a. What is the main idea of the text?

RTA
The main idea of the text is to illustrate the process of
obtaining a driver's license in the United States

b. What is the driving program's purpose when it demands to

pass the written test and the driving test?
RTA The purpose of the driving program when it demands
passing both the written test and the driving test is to
ensure that drivers in the United States possess sufficient
knowledge to prevent fatal accidents and, if necessary,
provide first aid to an injured person.

c. Considering the requirements to have a driver’s license in

the USA, do you think we could apply the same
requirements in Colombia? Explain.
RTA
The applicability of the same requirements for obtaining a
driver's license in the United States to Colombia would
depend on various factors, such as the existing
infrastructure, culture, and legal frameworks in Colombia.
While some aspects of the requirements, like age
restrictions and the need for driver education, could be
applied, the requirements would need to be adapted to the
local context and circumstances in Colombia, taking into
account differences in traffic conditions and regulatory
agencies.

d. Write four obligations people must do to obtain a license of

residence in the United States.
RTA
1. Immigrants must possess a passport or birth
certificate as identification (only in some states).
2. Immigrants must have a proficient command of the
English language to undertake the program.
3. Students in the driver education program must
complete certain hours of driving practice.
4. Applicants must pass a comprehensive medical
examination and a vision test.
