TLP 10: Circles: Chords, Arcs, Central Angles, and Inscribed Angles
Objectives: Through the discussion and examples, the students will be able to:
1. Define, draw/illustrate a circle;
2. State the definition concerning the basic parts of circle; and
3. Discuss the relationship between radius and diameter of the same circle.

RECALLING PRIOR KNOWLEGDE
In your previous discussion in Math, you have encountered the Circles in your class. Let us recall if you
can still remember it.
Generalization
In the circle above, we observe that point in the middle in point Z, so the name of the circle is circle Z. QR is a
chord, QS is a diameter, and ZT and ZQ∧ZS are radii.
Note: If the given is only the intercepted of an inscribed angle, the measures of the inscribed angle is half
of the measurement of it’s intercepted. If the given is the measurement of an inscribed angle, the
measurement of the it’s intercepted should be twice the measurement of the inscribed angle.
Measurement of a Central angle is equal to its measurement of intercepted arc.
Practice!
Try This #1
Refer to 󠄹circle S. Name the following
1. 2 minor arcs: ______________________________________
2. a major arc: _______________________________________
3. a semicircle: ______________________________________
4. a chord(not a diameter): _____________________________
5. an inscribed angle:__________________________________
Sum of the Central Angles
The sum of the measures of the central angles of a circle with no common interior points is 360 degrees.
