Professional applications of The topics studied will allow the student to find
the covered topics employment in companies, public and private bodies and
professional firms for the design, planning, construction
and management of works and plants for hydroelectric
production, for the management of environmental and
energy resources.

Teaching format Frontal lessons, Tutorials

Learning outcomes Knowledge and understanding:

The Hydro Power development module provides the
knowledge for run- of-the-river (RoR) hydro power plant
analysis and design. The frontal lessons, exercises and
project works will give the necessary in-depth analysis of
hydraulic design of each component of a RoR Hydro
Power Plant (and assistance to design during mini-
project work).
This course also provides the basic knowledge technical
, and economical aspects for the proper selection
and

design will be faced and discussed.

In particular, s m a l l - scale hydropower application area

and medium scale hydropower design will be developed
through at most two dedicated projects.

Applying Knowledge and understanding: (Optional )

During one or two visits to small and/or mini hydro power
plants (scheduled during the course), the elements which
compose the hydroelectric system will be analyzed and
understood, through practical examples.

Making judgments:
Students will be able to analyze and evaluate the potential
performances of a HPP.
Students will acquire ability to analyze technical and
economic feasibility of mini hydropower project and small
hydropower projects.

Communication skills:

Students will improve their communication skills by

learning how to write and discuss an auditing technical
report after a visit to a plan

Learning skills

Student will learn “Hydropower systems developments ”

to develop in detail the hydraulic design of each
compartment constituting a mini hydro power plant,
including: weir, intakes, settling basin, head race, surge
tank/forebay, penstock.

The course will transfer knowledge and methods for the

design of small scale hydro power developments.

Assessment Exercises, quizzes, test, Final Exams, and project report.

Assessment language English
