Summary of the
Activity A training programme was conducted for the teachers on the
topic of “Navigating the Education Ecosystem: Building Bridges
and Harmonizing Experiences.” The programme aimed to
provide teachers with tools and strategies to enhance discipline
strategies, improve student engagement, and promote positive
teacher- learner relationships in the classroom. The training
programme was conducted in a seminar style, with lectures,
interactive discussions, and group activities.

1. Descriptive report of the event

A training programme was conducted for the teachers on the topic of “Navigating the
Education Ecosystem: Building Bridges and Harmonizing Experiences.” The
programme aimed to provide teachers with tools and strategies to enhance discipline
strategies, improve student engagement, and promote positive teacher- learner
relationships in the classroom. The training programme was conducted in a seminar
style, with lectures, interactive discussions, and group activities. The programme was
divided into three main sessions:

 Identities: Nurturing Connections and Navigating Classroom


Challenges
The first session of the training programme focused on exploring the identities of a
student and teacher and how an effective relationship between the two fosters a healthy
learning environment. The section covered various topics, including who is a teacher,
who is a student and how do both the parties connect to enrich the learning experience.
The concept of discipline was touched upon in this session along with the participants’
observation of the kind of problematic behaviours observed in students. The
participants engaged in group discussions and brainstorming sessions to develop new
ideas for teaching and learning.

 Discipline in Learning: Necessities, Strategies and Theoretical


Foundations
The second session of the programme focused on exploring the concept of discipline and
its role in student management. The session covered the theory of Operant Conditioning
and the 4 tenets under it to inculcate discipline in the students, within the classroom.
The participants were introduced to concepts of desirable and undesirable behaviour in
the classroom, from the student’s point of view. They engaged in group activities and
role playing to learn new strategies for promoting desirable behaviour.

 Educator’s Skills and Institutional Culture: The Teacher’s Toolkit


The final session of the training programme focused on the presentation skills of teacher.
It covered various topics, including the skills of the teacher to make sessions informative
and creative along with utilizing the classroom smartly to explain academic concepts.
Any and every object in the class could be treated as a resource to promote practical and
skill- based knowledge. The participants engaged in group activities and discussions to
learn new and creative ways of structuring their teaching sessions.
2. Speaker Profile

Prof. A Sabu John, with notable roles as the Coordinator of the Office of Academic
Support and Assistant Professor in Psychology at CHRIST (Deemed to be University)
Delhi NCR Campus, boasts a rich academic background. His credentials include an
MSc in Counselling Psychology, an MPhil in Psychology, and a PG Diploma in Life
Skills, Sexuality and Reproductive Health. Currently engrossed in a PhD centred on
enhancing the quality of life for trainee counselling psychologists, Mr John showcases
his aptitude in devising transformative interventions. As an instrumental figure in the
University's Training and Development Centre, he crafts insightful training sessions
for varied stakeholders, emphasising his flair for dynamic training and design
thinking. Having previously been pivotal in initiatives like the Centre for Academic
and Professional Support (CAPS), and projects across rehabilitation centres in India,
his rich experience and passion for community welfare and training set him apart.

Ms. Hema M. A. is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at CHRIST (Deemed to be


University), Delhi NCR Campus in India, where she also serves as the Coordinator of
the Centre for Counseling and Health Services. She brings extensive research
experience from her work with esteemed institutions such as the Defence Research
and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Armed Forces Services Selection
Centre. In addition to her doctoral thesis on social identity and the exploration of the
"Social Identity of Kodavas," she holds certifications in Neuro Linguistic
Programming and Cognitive Hypnotic Life Coaching. Ms. Hema has a plethora of
publications, including book chapters and scientific articles, to her credit. She has
presented papers at both national and international conferences, focusing on her
areas of interest, such as Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, and Positive
Psychology. Ms. Hema was the proud recipient of the Prof. Barbra Naidu Award in
2020 for her outstanding contributions to the field of Psychology.
