Waste Segregation Practices at San Ramon High School

At San Ramon High School, the act of waste segregation has become more than just an
environmental initiative - it's a lesson in discipline and future-thinking. Students from grades 7 to
12 diligently sort their waste into designated bins for biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and
hazardous materials. This practice not only contributes to a healthier environment but also
instills a sense of responsibility and foresight. Through this hands-on approach, students are
learning the long-term benefits of their actions, understanding that their commitment today can
lead to a sustainable and promising future."

Preserving the Integrity of the Chocolate Hills: A Call to Action

By: Daffodil Rhiane Fabio

The Chocolate Hills of the Philippines, a natural wonder that has captivated the hearts of locals and
tourists alike, is under threat. Recent construction of recreational facilities, including a swimming pool,
within the vicinity of these iconic hills have sparked outrage and concern among many, including us, the
students.

The Chocolate Hills, with their unique and picturesque landscape, are not just a symbol of natural beauty
but also a testament to our country's rich cultural heritage. They are a source of pride for Filipinos and a
must-visit destination for tourists from around the world. The idea of exploiting this natural wonder for
commercial gain is not just disappointing, but downright disgusting.

The construction of recreational facilities in the area poses a significant threat to the integrity of the
Chocolate Hills. It risks damaging the natural landscape, disrupting the local ecosystem, and diminishing
the aesthetic value of the hills. Moreover, it sets a dangerous precedent, suggesting that economic gain
takes precedence over the preservation of our natural heritage.

As students, we are taught to respect and value our environment. We are encouraged to take action to
preserve our natural resources and to advocate for sustainable practices. The development at the
Chocolate Hills contradicts these values, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the preservation of our
natural heritage.

We, the students, are deeply concerned about the potential impact of this development on the Chocolate
Hills. We fear that the construction of recreational facilities will not only mar the natural beauty of the
hills but also lead to environmental degradation. We are appalled by the lack of consideration for the
preservation of this iconic landmark.

We call on the authorities to reconsider this proposal and to prioritize the preservation of the Chocolate
Hills. We urge them to recognize the value of this natural wonder beyond its potential for commercial
exploitation. We appeal to them to consider the long-term consequences of their actions and to make
decisions that will protect, rather than harm, our natural heritage.

We, the students, also have a role to play. We must raise our voices against this development and
advocate for the preservation of the Chocolate Hills. We must spread awareness about the importance of
protecting our natural heritage and encourage others to join our cause.
The Chocolate Hills are more than just a tourist attraction; they are a symbol of our country's natural
beauty and cultural heritage. They deserve to be preserved and protected, not exploited for commercial
gain. Let us stand together to protect the Chocolate Hills and ensure that they continue to captivate the
hearts of Filipinos and tourists for generations to come.

The Burning Issue: Rethinking Hay Disposal Practices in San Ramon

By: Jadriel Romualdo

In the agricultural land of San Ramon and its neighboring barangays, a concerning practice has taken
root. Farmers, after harvesting grain rice, often resort to burning the leftover hay, considering it of no use.
This practice, while seemingly harmless, has far-reaching implications for the environment and public
health.
Hay, the stem of rice, plays a crucial role in the growth of the crop. Beyond this, it serves as a valuable
resource for feeding cattle, preventing them from going hungry. Despite these benefits, many farmers
choose to burn it, a decision that warrants a closer look.
The continuous burning of hay contributes significantly to air pollution, posing a threat to the health of
local residents. The smoke produced from burning hay is rich in carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas known
for its role in climate change. While carbon dioxide can provide warmth during colder seasons, an excess
of it can harm our planet, leading to global warming.
The greenhouse effect, a natural process where certain gases trap heat in the atmosphere, is exacerbated
by the increase in carbon dioxide levels. This increase, primarily caused by burning fossil fuels, waste
materials like hay, and industrial operations, leads to a rise in Earth's temperature. The consequences of
this are all too familiar - extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and devastating natural disasters.
However, the narrative doesn't have to end on a negative note. Hay, often dismissed as waste, can be
repurposed in several beneficial ways. Instead of burning it, farmers can use hay as a natural fertilizer,
enriching the soil with organic matter. This not only improves soil health but also reduces the need for
chemical fertilizers, further benefiting the environment.

Additionally, hay can serve as a valuable food source for domestic animals. By providing them with hay,
farmers can ensure their livestock are well-fed while simultaneously reducing waste.

The issue of hay burning in San Ramon is a stark reminder of the need for sustainable agricultural
practices. It's time to shift our perspective and see hay not as waste, but as a resource. By doing so, we
can protect our environment, safeguard public health, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Let's be practical, not destructive. Let's turn the tide on hay burning and pave the way for a greener,
healthier San Ramon.

The Mind's Arena -Chess Game Students Should Embrace

In the world of sports, there's a game that doesn't require physical strength or agility, yet it demands a
high level of strategy, critical thinking, and mental stamina. This game is chess, often referred to as the
'game of kings,' and it's a sport that students should consider embracing.

Unlike outdoor sports that expose players to the elements, chess is an indoor game that can be played
anytime, anywhere. It doesn't require a large playing field or expensive equipment, just a chessboard,
pieces, and two players ready to engage in a battle of wits.

But what makes chess truly stand out is its ability to stimulate the mind. Each move in a game of chess is
a puzzle waiting to be solved, forcing players to think critically and strategically. It's a game that
challenges players to anticipate their opponent's moves, plan their strategy, and make decisions that could
potentially change the course of the game.

Playing chess is like embarking on a mental workout. It enhances cognitive abilities, improves memory,
and develops problem-solving skills. It teaches players to be patient, to analyze situations carefully, and
to make decisions based on logic and strategy rather than impulse.

Moreover, chess is a game that encourages sportsmanship and respect. Players learn to accept defeat
gracefully and to celebrate victory humbly. They learn that every game, whether won or lost, is an
opportunity to learn and improve.

For students, embracing chess can have significant benefits. It can help improve concentration and
academic performance, particularly in subjects that require logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
It can also provide a much-needed break from screen time, offering a fun and engaging way to relax and
unwind.

In a world where physical prowess is often celebrated, chess serves as a reminder that mental strength is
equally important. It's a game that celebrates the power of the mind, encouraging players to think,
strategize, and learn.

So, students, consider picking up a chess piece and stepping into the mind's arena. Embrace the game of
chess and discover a world of strategy, critical thinking, and endless learning opportunities. Remember, in
chess, as in life, every move counts. Make yours wisely.
DepEd Introduces "Catch Up Fridays" Initiative: A Step Towards Bridging the Learning Gap
Date: March 18, 2024

In a significant move aimed at addressing learning gaps among students, the Department of Education
(DepEd), under the leadership of Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sarah Duterte Carpio, has recently
introduced the "Catch Up Fridays" initiative.

"Catch Up Fridays" is designed to provide learners with an opportunity to catch up on the learning
competencies they may have missed during the week due to absences or other reasons. This initiative
underscores the DepEd's commitment to ensuring that all students have access to quality education and
the necessary support to succeed academically.

Under this new initiative, Fridays will be dedicated to helping students catch up on lessons they missed
during the week. Teachers will provide additional guidance and support, ensuring that students
understand the material and are able to keep up with their peers.

"Catch Up Fridays" is a response to the challenges faced by many students who, for various reasons, are
unable to attend school regularly. By providing a dedicated day for these students to catch up on their
lessons, the DepEd aims to prevent them from falling behind and to promote a more inclusive and
equitable learning environment.

Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sarah Duterte Carpio, in her announcement of the initiative,
emphasized the importance of ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. "Education is a
right, not a privilege. With 'Catch Up Fridays,' we aim to ensure that no student is left behind due to
circumstances beyond their control," she said.

The "Catch Up Fridays" initiative has been welcomed by educators and parents alike, who see it as a
practical and effective way to address learning gaps. It is expected to benefit thousands of students across
the country, particularly those who struggle with regular school attendance. As the

"Catch Up Fridays" initiative is rolled out, the DepEd remains committed to monitoring its progress and
making necessary adjustments to ensure its effectiveness. This initiative is a testament to the DepEd's...

ikaunlad.
