UNIT 7: LET’S BUY PRESENTS!


PERIOD 1 - WORDS + GRAMMAR.
I/ Objectives:
- To identify different things/ presents in birthday party.

- To understand a short story

- To ask and answer questions about what people like or don’t like
II/ Procedures: ( 90 mins )

2/ Lesson 1: - Show a picture of a birthday party
Vocabulary - Ask ss to name things they can see in the picture (2 teams)
Presentation:
₊ Introduce Unit 7, divide class in 2 teams
₊ Elicit new words by asking about each picture card (Write new words on board).
Model the words that ss dont know. Practice
Controlled activites
Listen, point and repeat.
- Ask Ss to open their class books and look at the pictures and words
- Play the recording for Ss to listen, point and repeat
- Ask individual Ss to say the words for the class
Listen and chant.
- Play the recording for children to listen to the chant once through.
- Play the chant a second time for children to say the words.
- T says Team 1, Team 2,…chant

Guided actitivies
- Activity 1: Slap the board: divide class into 2 teams, show flashcards on the
board. Teacher says the word, then each team will choose 1 ss to come and slap to
the correct picture on the board. The first team slap the correct picture and speak
out will get point.

- Activity 2: Whispering: 2 teams stand in 2 lines. Teacher whisper a word to two


surrendered students, then they whisper to the next ss. 2 ss at the end of the line
are responsible for writing the word they hear on the board and speak out. Which
team has the correct word will get point.

Pre- teach a story


Lead in: Discover the picture
Story - Ask ss about what presents they will buy if they go to their friend’s birthday party.
- Ask children to name the characters with their feelings, and as many things in the
picture as they can. Predict what the story is about.
Teach the story
- Ask sts to listen and check the information (ask students to listen and follow the
story
- Have them listen again and underline the new words and explain the new words.
- Have sts listen and repeat sentence by sentence
Let students practice reading story as roles (3 minutes)
Role play or act it out .
- Divide the class into some groups of 2 to play the parts of the characters
- Invite the groups to act the story out ( the rest will take note and give the
feedback of role plays)

Post teach:
Check understanding: ask ss some comprehension questions to check ss if they can
understand the story clearly

- Put the bell on the middle, members of 2 teams take turns to answer questions

- Ask questions “Is Billy 5 years old?; Does Billy like trains and cars?”/ “What
doesn’t Billy like? Why?”/ What else does Billy like?”

- Further activities: Write the story with mistakes to see whether sts recognize/ fill
in the blank

Break Time

Lesson 2: Lead in:


Grammar
- Hot potato: pass the ball around the class and turn on music, when the music
stop, the ss has the ball will need to answer the question “Do you like cake? - Yes,
I do, I like cake/ No, I don’t, O don’t like cake;…”

- Ask ss to focus on the Let’s learn box. Ask ss what they can see.

- Write the model sentences and questions on board. Read the sentences and
questions, pausing after each one for ss to point and repeat

Presentation:

- Introduce how to ask and answer questions about what people like or don’t like
and the pronouns in each sentence and replace with flashcards to elicit sentences
with the same pattern.

- Introduce how to write short answers. I like sweets, I don’t like cake, He likes…,
He doesn’t like…..

- Ask students to do the Do exercise 3, 4 (check answer, feedback). Explain the

- Teacher prepares handout for ss to interview their friends, then present to whole
class what their friends like or not.

Wrap-up Play game: Revise the new words

- Show flashcards/ draw picture of vocab on the board, choose randomly 2 ss to use
the sticky ball to throw on the picture that teacher say, then ss need to speak out
full sentences “I like…/ I don’t like…”

- Goodbye
