LESSON PLAN
Unit 3: Characters larger than life
Period 1: Opener + 3a
I. Learning objectives:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- To read for specific information, to describe past activities or a film
- To understand the simple past (affirmative & negative)
II. Lesson procedures:
STAGE TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
NAME
Warm-up - Greeting (1m)
+ 1. Warm-up activity: (5ms)
- Discussing: T shows picture about superheroes, and ask “Who are fan of
Opener Marvel or DC?” “Can you name some Superheroes that you know?”
(~15mins) - Ss discuss about what are abilities of those superheroes.
- T asks ss to predict the content of topic they are going to learn.
2. Opener & Vocabulary (in the Opener):
 T shows picture on page 31 and ask ss to discuss “Who are they?,
What can be their abilities?”
 Divide class into 2 teams to answer.
- Teach vocabulary related to the topic
 Play the recording. Ss listen first, then listen again the abilities of
each character in the picture and circle the phrases they can hear.
 Ss listen and repeat the phrase, either chorally or individually.
 Ask ss to list out new words and then T explains by pictures.
 T asks class to read out loud full sentences “Daredevil can hear
very well and fight very well,…”
- Activity:
+ Charades (Hot seat) to check spelling and vocabulary: T writes phrases

(about abilities) on the board, 2 ss face to the rest and guess by their friends’
action. Then each team needs to make sentences with those phrases.

Reading A. PRE READING


1. Pre-Text Discussion/Task
(~25ms)
- Ask Ss to describe pictures (Who are in the picture? What do they look
like?)
- Ask ss to predict content of the text by pictures and title.
- Tell Ss they will check their prediction later.
B. WHILE READING
1. Reading for Gist (skimming)
- T introduces the text (“We are going to read …)
+ What the text is about: Why is the Hulk a hero?
+ What Ss are going to do: read the text, answer questions
- T plays the recording for Ss to listen.
- Then Ss listen again and answer Qs: What does Hulk look like? Who
created the Incredible Hulk? Why he/she created heroes?
2. Reading for Specific Information (scanning)
2.1. Explain vocabulary
- Ss read out loud and underline/ list out new words
- T reads the words/phrases aloud. Ss repeat.
- T gives Ss 2 minutes to look up the words in the Word list.
- Ss explain new words, T supports ss (translate to VNese if needed)
Activity: Quick check understanding.
+ T says the meanings of the words
+ Ss say the word and which team can make sentences with that word will
get point.
2.2. Read and check understanding the context.
- T divides class into 2 teams to answer 6 questions in exercise 2 (T/F)
- T checks answers:
+ T can use Itool to show the text on the board then ask Ss to read out loud
the Q, underline keywords, find keywords in the text and locate where

(which lines) they can find the information. (T underlines the information on
the app.)

C. POST READING
3. Post-Text Discussion/Task (Optional)
To allow an opportunity to react to the text and to provide an opportunity to
personalize the topic.
- T gives ss expanded questions on Itool (T/F questions)
- Ss work in 2 teams to answer.
Provide feedback to Ss’ answers

Grammar A. PRE-TEACH
(~20 - 25 mins) - Provide examples to identify structure
+ T uses PPT to show some sentences in past simple.
+ Ss read and find common point in sentences
B. WHILE TEACHING
- T shows theory and explain the grammar
- Practice:
+ Link to Reading: ss underline regular verb and circle irregular verb in the
text.
+ Ss do exercise 6, 7, 8 in text book page 33
+ T checks the answers
+ Activity 1: T prepares handout, ss work in pairs
