Word stress is the verbal emphasis placed on one syllable of a word. This occurs in
every English word that has more than one syllable. It's not always the same syllable but there are a
couple of rules to be familiar with when it comes to word stress.
Syllable stress is an important aspect or property of any language. Syllable stress or accent may be
on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd syllable in a word.

A. PHRASING
- means grouping in a long sentence in order (1) to express a clear thought and (2) to catch one’s
breath while speaking.

B. BLENDING
- is saying the words in a phrase as if they were one word.

C. INTONATION
- It is the rise and fall of the voice when a person speaks. The voice rises in a stressed syllable or
word. It falls in an stressed syllable or word.

 falling intonation – used at the end of statement, command, request, tag question
expressing certainty, and question which cannot be answered by yes or no.

 rising intonation – is used at the end of a yes/no question, after a phrase within a sentence,
and enumerating persons, places, objects, etc.
