Chapter 2: Internship Summary
• This internship was a very useful experience that is needed
to get clarification about the reality of how the work is done
in a company.
• I have gained new set of skills and knowledge during this
internship.
• I met a lot of people who were working in this field and they
shared their experience with me and gave me a brief
exposure about the company and its working.
• I learned about the process of converting a raw material into
the end product by using different machinery and
performing different processes.
• There is still a lot to discover and learn according to it.
• This internship was also good to find out what my strengths
and weaknesses are.
• However, I have to get more exposure and knowledge to do
things better if I want to be skilful and contribute to the
organization I will work for.
• It would be better if I could present and express myself with
more confidence.
In the end, I would like to summarize that this internship has given
me great exposure and motivation to build a career in an industrial
background.

Chapter 3: Stainless Steel Reactor

 A stainless steel reactor is a vessel used in the

pharmaceutical industry for various chemical processes,
including synthesis, mixing, and reactions.
 It's made from stainless steel due to its corrosion resistance
and durability. Stainless steel reactors come in various sizes
and designs, from small-scale lab reactors to large industrial
reactors.
 They typically consist of an outer shell, an agitator for
mixing, heating and cooling systems, and ports for adding or
removing substances.

 Figure 2: Stainless-steel Reactor

12
Chapter 4: Glass Line Reactor

• Glass Lined Reactors consist of a main body, top section with

connecting nozzles & man way, baffles, dip pipes, agitator
with mechanical seal, tank outlet valve and jacket for
thermal transfer.
• Smaller components such as bursting discs and sight glasses
are also used frequently for pressure relief and visibility.

 Figure 3: Glass Tube Reactor

13
Chapter 5: Boiler
• A boiler is a vessel that generates steam by heating
water. In the pharmaceutical industry, steam is used for
various processes like sterilization, cleaning, and
heating.
• Boilers come in different types, such as fire-tube
boilers and water-tube boilers. They utilize various fuel
sources, including natural gas, oil, or electricity, to
produce steam.

 Figure 4: Boiler

14
Chapter 6: Utility Area

• The utility area in a pharmaceutical facility is where essential

services like water, electricity, compressed air, and gases are
supplied to support various operations.
• It's a crucial part of the facility's infrastructure to ensure
smooth and efficient production.

 Figure 5: Utility Area

15
Chapter 7: Filter Area

• The filter area is where different types of filtration processes

occur. Filtration is used to separate solid particles from
liquids or gases.
• In the pharmaceutical industry, filters are critical for
maintaining product purity and ensuring safety.
• Filters can range from simple mesh screens to more
advanced technologies like membrane filters.

 Figure 6: Filter Area

16
Chapter 8: Centrifugal Pump

• A centrifuge pump is used to move fluids or slurries through

a system by using centrifugal force.
• These pumps are often used to transport liquids containing
solids or to separate solid particles from liquids.
• In pharmaceutical applications, they can be used for
processes like separation and filtration.

 Figure 7: Centrifugal Pump

17
Chapter 9: Helical Pump

• A helical pump, also known as a screw pump, is a type of

positive displacement pump.
• It uses the rotation of helical screws to move fluids through
the pump.
• These pumps are known for their gentle pumping action and
their ability to handle viscous fluids.
• They find application in the pharmaceutical industry for
transferring sensitive or viscous liquids.

 Figure 8: Helical Pump

18
Chapter 10: Condenser (Shell and Tube)

• A condenser is a heat exchanger used to convert vapour back

into a liquid state.
• In a shell and tube condenser, hot vapour flows through a set
of tubes while a cooling fluid flows around the tubes in a
shell.
• This causes the vapour to condense into a liquid.
• Condensers are used in various pharmaceutical processes
that involve vaporization and subsequent cooling.

19
Chapter 11: Powder purification equipment

• "Powder purification equipment" is a broad term that

encompasses various machines and processes used to purify
or refine powders in the pharmaceutical industry. Here's an
overview of some common types of powder purification
equipment and their functionalities:

I. Raw Material: The process starts with the selection and

preparation of raw materials needed for the production of
ASA (Acetylsalicylic Acid) tablets.

II. Flow Synthesis: Flow synthesis is a method where

chemical reactions take place in a continuous flow of
reactants. In this context, it refers to the continuous
production of ASA through chemical reactions that occur as
the reactants flow through a system.

III. Continuous Crystallization: This involves the

continuous formation of ASA crystals from the reaction
mixture. It's a controlled process to ensure consistent crystal
size and purity.

IV. Continuous Filtration & Drying: Once the crystals are

formed, they need to be separated from the liquid reaction
mixture. Continuous filtration and drying processes ensure
the crystals are collected and dried efficiently.
V. Continuous Blending: Blending refers to the mixing of
different materials to ensure uniformity. In this case, it
involves mixing the dried ASA crystals with any necessary
excipients or additives to create a uniform blend for tablet
formulation.

21
Chapter 12: Agitator

• Agitators are equipment used to homogenize media inside a

tank.
• They work by rotating immersed impellers at a controlled
speed, also called revolutions per minute (RPM).
• The work exerted by the impeller induces the flow and shear
of the media inside the tank, causing a single or multi-
component media to homogenize.
• The flow of the media is kept at a uniform rate and pattern.
