Safety Rule
1. Minimize the use of electrical equipment in cold rooms or other areas.

2. If it is safe to do so work with only one hand keep the other hand at your side.

3. When it is necessary to handle equipment that is plugged in be sure handle are dry.

4. Avoid contact with energized electrical circuit.

5. Use only tool and equipment with non -conductor handles when working an electrical.

6. If water or a chemical is spilled into equipment shut off all power.

7. Treat all electrical devices as if they are live or energized.

8. Disconnect the power source before serving or repairing electrical equipment.

9. Never use metallic pencils or rules when working with electrical equipment.

10. Always use appropriate tools equipment and protective clothes.

11. Never assume a circuit is off always check for power with appropriate instrument.

12. Do not work in areas which are damp.

13. Do not work under poor lighting condition.

14. Most accidents are because SAFETY RULES WERE NOT OBSERVED AND
APPLIED.

15. KNOW THE ASFETY REGULATION so that safe working habits can be developed.

16. Do not use equipment unless you are trained in its operation and safe handling.

17. Side rails of ladder should be more than one foot apart.

18. Ensure that the ladder is free of faults broken or loose member.

19. Ladder rungs should be spaced 30cm.

20. The ladder should be placed on a firm footing.

Accident report
On May10, 2018 about 3:30p.m at Somerset district in S.t Andrew. A transform box got
damage through the cause of a heavy rain. The J.P.S was contacted who later dispatch the
emergency crew. The member of the crew was John Brown, Mark Watson and Bob Smalls. The
crew arrived at Somerset about 4:30p.m. They took a look around to see what was wrong. Then
we notice that problem was with the transform. So we had to send back for a new transform box
to replace the old one .In about an hour later the crew had reach back with a new transform. Then
we use a ladder to get up to the transform box to take out the old one so it can be replace by sent
it down on the rope while receive the new transform the rope got cut, the transform box felt back
to ground but while doing so the box slide and hit mark on his shoulder leave him on the ground.
John ran toward him the Bob came down from the ladder. They rushed him to the hospital then
Bob contact the company to let them know that one of their men was down. In about a haft and
hour the J.P.S worker came to the hospital to see mark but the doctor said that he was in seriously
damage and he was in stable condition. Form a report and the accident that take place.

AC Motors

13
INTRODUCTION

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into

mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction

between the motor's magnetic field and electric current in a wire winding to

generate force in the form of rotation of a shaft.

14
CONSTRUCTION

• An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical

energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through

the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and electric current

in a wire winding to generate force in the form of rotation of a shaft.

15
STATOR

• The stator is the stationary part of a rotary system, found in electric

generators, electric motors, sirens, mud motors or biological rotors.

Energy flows through a stator to or from the rotating component of the

system (rotating magnetic field/synchronous speed).

16
ROTOR

The rotor is a moving component of an electromagnetic system in

the electric motor, electric generator, or alternator. Its rotation is due to the

interaction between the windings and magnetic fields which produces a

torque around the rotor's axis.

17
END BALL

• End Bells: Also called end shields, cover plates, etc., and are used to

house the bearings which support the shaft and to cover the windings.

On small motors the end bell is a complete cover, with a few openings

for cooling.

18
ROLOR

• The stator of an induction motor consists of poles carrying supply current to induce a

magnetic field that penetrates the rotor.

19
SINGLE PHASE

• In electrical engineering, single-phase electric power is the distribution of alternating

current electric power using a system in which all the voltages of the supply vary in

unison. Single-phase distribution is used when loads are mostly lighting and heating,

with few large electric motors.

20
SERIES

• The single-phase series motor is a commentator-type motor. If the polarity of the line

terminals of a dc series motor is reversed, the motor will continue to run in the same

direction. Thus, it might be expected that a dc series motor would operate on alternating

current also. Connected across a single-phase ac supply.

SHUNT

21
An electrical conductor joining two points of a circuit, through which more or less of a current

may be diverted.

COMPOUND

22
• Cumulative compound wound motors are virtually suitable for almost all applications

like business machines, machine tools, agitators and mixers etc. Compound

motors are used to drive loads such as shears, presses and reciprocating machines.

THREE PHASE OPERATION

23
• The principle of operation of three phase induction motor is the relative speed between

the rotating magnetic field and the rotor conductors. When a three phase set of voltage is

applied to stator winding, it produces rotating magnetic field in counter clockwise

direction.

TYPE OF THREE PHASES MOTOR

24
• Squirrel cage motor.

• Double squirrel cage motor.

• Wound rotor / slip ring motor.

• Synchronous motor.

• Hysteresis synchronous motor.

• Servo motor

• Three-phase AC induction motors are widely used in industrial and commercial

applications. These are of two types, squirrel cage and slip ring motors. Squirrel

cage motors are widely used due to their rugged construction and simple design. Slip

ring motors require external resistors to have high starting torque.
