PRAYER

• Almighty loving FATHER, we Glorify

YOU, we Praise YOU, we give YOU
thanks.
• As we discuss our lesson today, we ask
YOU to preside over us.
• May we gain knowledge that will widen
our understanding of life.
• May we acquire skills to enable us the
task for living.
PRAYER
• Teach us to know our own weaknesses that we
may guard ourselves against them.
• Teach us to know our strength that we may use
them for the betterment of self and others.
• Give us a diligent and obedient spirit.
• Help us to be humble and realize that apart from
YOU we are nothing.
• These we ask in the name of Jesus, Muhammad
and all the prophets who came to HONOR
YOUR NAME.
AMEN

ACTIVITY ON PERCENT
CONCENTRATION BY MASS
AND VOLUME
ACTIVITY
Guide questions:
1) What is the difference
between concentrated and
diluted solution?
2) How are we going to
define solution precisely?
3) What is the percent by
mass of 5.0 g of iron (II)
sulfate dissolved in 75.0 g
of water?
ACTIVITY
Guide questions:
4) If you are asked to buy ethyl alcohol in the
department store, which are you going to
buy? A 40% ethyl alcohol or 70% ethyl
alcohol and why?
5) Why is it important to know the
concentration of solutions that you used or
buy?
SAMPLE PROBLEM
A solution is made by adding
25 mL of benzene to 80 mL
of toluene. What is the
percent by volume of
benzene solution?
FOOD PROCESSING

Percentage concentration in
determining the actual
spoilage/rejects in food
processing.
FOOD PROCESSING

Data gathering on raw materials

and ingredients is necessary in
order to compute and calculate
production input and output of the
finished product.
ACTUAL SPOILAGE OR REJECTS

• Actual spoilage or rejects and their

corresponding percentage depend on the
product to be made.
• Spoilage also is defined as the wastage or
loss of material that occur during the
manufacturing process.
SAMPLE PROBLEM
Jose is an industrious boy. He helps
his mother in household chores and in
their livelihood of making processed
food. One day his mother asked him
to calculate the actual spoilage/rejects
after getting 50 grams of intestinal
organ from sardines that produces
500 grams of smoked fish. Help Jose
by accomplishing his task.
IMPORTANCE
Percentage concentration/composition
provides valuable information about the
relative amounts of solute and solvent in a
solution.
This information is crucial for
understanding the physical and chemical
properties of the solution: such as density,
boiling point, freezing point, osmotic
pressure, and colligative properties.
EARTH’S SUBSYSTEMS
Everything in Earth's system can be
placed into one of four major
subsystems: land, water, living things,
or air. These four subsystems are
called "spheres. Each of these four
spheres can be further divided into
sub-spheres.
THE ATMOSPHERE
• A pie chart is a type of graph that represents the
data in the circular graph. The slices of pie show
the relative size of the data, and it is a type of
pictorial representation of data.

ASSESSMENT
I Fill in the blanks.
• A ________ is one in which there is a large
amount of solute in a given amount of
solvent while a ________ is one in which
there is a small amount of solute in a given
amount of solvent.
II Problem Solving:
1) If a solution contains 25 grams of sugar
(C12H22O11) dissolved in 125 grams of water,
what is the mass percent of sugar in the
solution?
