The Life and Importance of the Holy Prophet

Period of his stay in Madinah

Relations with the Quraysh during 610 and 632

Name of Event: Battle of Khandaq(Trench)/Ahzab(Confederates)

Date: Shawwal, 5 AH
Location: Border of Madinah / Uhad
Opponents: Muslims against Allies or Confederate tribes of Arabia
Event(s) leading to the battle:
• It was a Jewish conspiracy of the Banu Nadir. Huay bin Akhtab led around
twenty notable Jews(Salam bin Abil Huqayq etc) to Makkah and urged the
Quraysh to make war on the Prophet Muhammad and promised help and
support.
• To stir propaganda against Islam, the Jews lied that as against Islam,
Quraysh idolatry was better. (4:51-52)
• The Jewish group then went to the tribes of Ghatafan and Qays and
guaranteeing them help also, encouraged them to fight against God's
Messenger.
• At the start of battle, Huay also met the leader of Bani Quraiza and forced
them to break the treaty and join the confederates. After some reluctance,
the leader agreed.
• These intrigues of the Jews resulted in the formation of a great confederacy
against Islam. It consisted of the Makkan polytheists, the desert tribes of
central Arabia, the Jews previously expelled for treacheries from Madina,
the Jews (Bani Qurayza) remaining in Madina, and the hypocrites led by
'Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul. The last two constituted a treacherous
network within Madina.
