Moths are insects which look like butterflies. They are often brown, but they can also be bright colours.
Most moths are nocturnal, which means they only come out at night. They usually rest during the day.
There are more than 150,000 different kinds of moth. Most of them only live for about one week.
ia

Different moths eat different types of food. Most moths eat plants, taking nectar from flowers. Of course,
gl

plant-eating moths take food from flowers which smell strongest at night.
An

Other types of moths eat wool or silk. These moths love to live in your house with you. but they may eat
your carpets and your favourite clothes. One other type of moth is the silk-worm moth. These creatures lay
their eggs on Mulberry leaves. The eggs become caterpillars and they eat the Mulberry leaves. When the
caterpillars are large enough, they make a protective case around their body. This is called a cocoon. After
a few weeks, the cocoon breaks open and a new moth escapes.

Neil Armstrong was born in Ohio, USA, in 1930. He was five years old when he first travelled by

Pa
aeroplane, with his father. Ten years later, he learnt to fly and received his flying certificate when he was
sixteen.

e
Armstrong went to university in Indiana to study engineering. He was also in the US navy at the same time.
The navy paid for his university education. Later, Armstrong became a test pilot in California.

pl
Armstrong moved to Florida in 1961 to join NASA and train to be an astronaut. His first space flight was in

m
1966 and he met Buzz Aldrin. Aldrin was the pilot who flew the spaceship to the moon in 1969.
Armstrong and Aldrin spent two and a half hours on the surface of the moon. The third astronaut on the
Sa
flight, Michael Collins, stayed on the spaceship. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon and
famously said, ‘That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.’ Six hundred million people
watched it on TV around the world.
