1. Knowing the various definitions of research from the different points of view of several

authors, how do you describe research? or what is research for you? (10pts.)

Answer: It is a systematic investigation into and study of materials and resources in order to

establish facts and reach new conclusions. It involves collection of data, organization and

analysis of information to increase understanding or expand a past work.

2. Discuss the importance and uses of quantitative research in your field of specialization. (

10pts)

Answer: Quantitative Research is important in education because it can be use to measure the

effectiveness of a certain teaching methodology or intervention, or program for the students. It

provides numerical data that can prove or disprove a theory.

3. Differentiate the types of research (i.e quantitative, qualitative & mixed method).

Illustrate its difference by citing at least one (1) example of each type of research title

from published journal. (20 pts.)

Answer: * Quantitative Research- is numerical, non-descriptive, applies statistics or

mathematics and uses numbers. It investigates the what, where and when of decision making.

*Qualitative Research- It is non-numerical, descriptive, applies reasoning and uses words. Its

aim is to get the meaning, feeling and describe the situation. Qualitative data cannot be

graphed. It investigates the why and how of decision making.

*Mixed research- research that involves the mixing of quantitative and qualitative methods or
paradigm characteristics. Nature of data is mixture of variables, words and images.

4. Describe ethics in quantitative research and in qualitative research. (10pts.)

Answer: Ethical considerations in research are set principles that guide your research designs

and practices. Researchers must adhere to these principles when collecting data from people.
