Architecture on A Seaside Hotel and Resort Expo Center

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Resting along the Peninsula of Bataan are its immaculate beaches that harbors
different marine species and natural landscapes that have been one of the remarkable
qualities of the province. Only a few of these seaside attractions have been developed to
cater the growing tourism economy in Bataan. Most of the beaches along the peninsula
of Bataan are untouched, and has been kept as is by the locals who took it to their
responsibility to preserve their habitat.

Over the past decade, more and more resorts and beaches have been sprouting
along the shores of Bataan, especially on the coastlines of Bagac to Morong. Its
secluded nature slightly far from the main city created an extra allure to tourists and
locals alike. The beach resort industry has earned its reputation and created its own
name to attract visitors from all over the world. However, these are not sufficient enough
to improve the popularity and economy of the place, let alone make the world know what
is beyond these beautiful beaches.

This proposal study of creating a hotel and resort expo center will help boost the
eco-tourism and economy in Bataan through providing a place where different people
from all over the world could gather and share their interests and views on large-scale
events while simultaneously creating a safe space for showcasing the beautiful
seascapes and landscapes of Bataan. This instills how we could enjoy the beach
experience, while protecting the majestic gifts of nature. The hotel and resort expo
center could also be utilized by anyone for public and private purposes, giving them a
functional and aesthetic experience, alongside appreciating the architecture and the
surrounding natural environment. The study will also promote the use of natural light and
ventilation and utilize sustainable and green architecture, incorporated to a timeless and
futuristic architectural design.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study sought to determine the feasibility of a hotel and resort expo center on
envisioning the future of tourism and economy in Bataan. In addition to that, the hotel
and resort expo center’s fruition aims to bring an impact that will benefit the tourism
industry and economy, while simultaneously accomplishing other goals that will not only
be beneficial to the people of Bataan, but for the other target population as well, on a
long-term effect.

1.2.1 Main Problem

How will a Hotel and Resort Expo Center solve the problem of lack of large-scale
functional spaces in Bataan, while promoting its natural seascapes and landscapes that
could steadily boost tourism and economy of the province over a long period of time?

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Using a contemporary architecture approach for the Hotel and Resort Expo
Center, the project will be able to achieve new feats of architectural innovation that could
spark the beginning of a new era of architectural styles across the country, once it
carries out its main objective well and gives the impact as intended.

Having a hotel and resort expo center allows the people to have a space to share
their common interests and showcase it into a place that suits the requirements for these
kinds of gathering, and it will allow them to maximize the potential of the spaces to their
comfort and contentment, as well as enjoy the beautiful scenery and aesthetic
environment.

The study’s expected importance will be beneficial to the individuals as follow:

1.3.1 Citizens of Bataan

The primary beneficiary of this project will be the citizens of Bataan. With their
close proximity to the place, it allows them to have the easiest accessibility to the site,
and therefore, they will be able to utilize the space more often than any of the other
target populations. This will also add more character to the place, and will give it a more
local feel as the citizens incorporate their characteristics to the place. This will also give
a lot of job opportunities to the locals.

1.3.2 Tourists

Oftentimes, there are only a few places where a place could cater tourists and
showcase the beauty of a place. With the use of a hotel and resort combined with the
expo center, it will give them the opportunity to access and explore the whole experience
of being in Bataan, in one confined space. This type of accessibility will spread
information much faster and make promotions more effective, and convenient for every
type of user within the space.

One effective way to pitch investments and prospects to investors is through

public gatherings and conventions that showcase a place’s potential. Having a place that
caters to these kinds of events will surely be an open invitation to potential investors in
Bataan to continuously support its growing economy.

1.3.5 Government

The expo center could also be utilized as a formal and corporate space for a
much more professional level of conventions and exhibitions. The government could use
the space not only for creating more environmental and tourism awareness, but for
executive purposes as well, opening up opportunities for new business partnerships and
investments that could help the economy. The corporate world from neighboring cities
could use the place for them to discuss business matters and professional conventions
keeping the professional ambience, at the same time make their leisure time more
engaging, valuable, and stress relieving through close proximity to nature.

1.3.6 Researchers

The study will be able to help future researchers to identify what are the
underlying factors that could be utilized to maximize the potential of a space, for it to
properly carry out its goal. Contemporary architecture is also not yet much seen on the
philippines architecture and just starting to make its name across the country, so this
could be beneficial to build the foundation for future studies.

1.4 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1.4.1 Goals

The Portal: Seaside Hotel and Resort Expo Center’s main goal is to provide a
large-scale functional space for gathering and events, where people can share their
interests and engage in indoor and outdoor event experiences through the facilities,
alongside enjoying the natural seascape and landscape of the province that could create
a long term positive impact on the tourism and economy in Bataan.

Through the use of contemporary architecture on the hotel and resort expo
center’s design, this will bring something new to perspective of the citizens in Bataan,
that will bring a different allure that will pique the curiosity and interest of the people,
therefore giving a head start to skyrocket the tourism again on the province.

1.4.2 Objectives

● To fully maximize the benefits from constructing a seaside hotel and

resort expo center.
● To provide proper and sufficient facilities to the project that has a long
term positive effect on the tourism and economy of Bataan.
● To establish a proper design concept and solution that accommodates
and accomplishes the project’s goals and objectives through application
of architectural theories and proper building laws.

1.5 Scope and Delimitation

1.5.1 Scope

The primary scope of the study is the development of a seaside hotel and
resort expo center in Bataan.

All throughout the study, it will cover different applications in design that
will be suitable for the requirements of the project. It will also go through architectural
design and concept, innovative design methods, project sustainability and development,
proper implementation of laws and guidelines on the space requirements of the project.
Research and data gathering will also be covered and documented to present as
supporting information necessary for the project proposal, and beneficial to future related
studies and research.

1.5.2 Delimitations

The project proposal’s sole focus is on architectural planning, concept,

and design solutions that are applicable only to a hotel and resort expo center. The
facilities that will be included will follow proper design planning and guidelines to create
flexible spaces that properly carry out their purpose and functions to achieve the
project’s goals and objective, as well as create a solution for the existing problems. The
project will include tourism and economic data in Bataan, as it is the chosen location of
the study.

1.6 JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY

All throughout Bataan, there are only three well-known places for holding
conventions and exhibits for the citizens to utilize. Little to no existing studies have been
made to create a large-scale seaside hotel and resort expo center for the people of
Bataan to use, making the potential of the study much more promising for the future
studies to be conducted.

The study aims for a unique perspective to further improve the reach of tourism
and economy in Bataan, and at the same time help the environment to thrive naturally
on its own, while creating the awareness of conserving and saving the environment it
was situated upon.

Using contemporary architecture for the design also holds a unique perspective
that conjures all the good intentions and benefits that a project like this could attain. A
place where one is connected both to a common interest within a confined space, at the
same time closer to nature than ever.
