PROBLEM 1
1. A proposed concrete floor has a general
dimension of 10cm x 3 m x 5m . Determine the
quantity of cement in bags, sand and gravel in
cubic meters required using class A mixture.

Solution: Determine the volume

1. Volume = Thickness x length x Width

2. Refer to table 1-2
3. Refer to 40 kg cement

PROBLEM 1 dimension of 10cm x 3 m x 5m . Determine the
quantity of cement in bags, sand and gravel in
cubic meters required using class A mixture.

Solution: Determine the volume

1. Volume = Thickness x length x Width

Volume=0.10 x 3 x 5
Volume= 1.5 cu.m.

2. Cement = 1.5 cu. m. x 9.0 = 13.5 bags or 14

bags
3. Sand = 1.5 cu. m. x 0.50 = 0.75 cu. M.
4. Gravel = 1.5 cu. m. x 1.0 = 1.5 cu.m.

A concrete wall, 3 inches thick with general
dimensions of 3.00 meters high by 7.00
PROBLEM 2 meters long specify class “B” mixture. Find
the number of 40 kg. cement, sand, gravel
required.

Solution: Determine the volume

1. Volume = 0.075 x 3.00 x 7.00 = 1.575 cu.m.

2. Cement= 1.575 cu.m. x 7.5 = 11.8 bags or 12
bags
Sand=1.575 cu.m. x 0.5 = 0.787 or 0.79 cu.m.
Gravel = 1.575 cu.m. x 1.00 = 1.575 or 1.58
cu.m.

A concrete post 4.0 m high w/ cross sectional
PROBLEM 3 dimensions of 40 cm x 40 cm is supported by a
footing slab 20 cm. thick by 1.20 meter square.
Using class “A” concrete, find the quantity of
cement, sand, gravel of there are 12 post of the
same size

By volume method:
1. For posts
Volume= Sectional area x height x no. of post
2. For slab footing
Volume= 12 (l x w x h)
3. Find total volume
4. Refer to table 1-2

PROBLEM 3
A concrete post 4.0 m high w/ cross sectional dimensions of 40 cm x 40 cm is supported by a
footing slab 20 cm. thick by 1.20 meter square. Using class “A” concrete, find the quantity of
cement, sand, gravel of there are 12 post of the same size
By volume method:
1. For posts
Volume= Sectional area x height x no. of post
V = (0.4 m x 0.4 m) x 4.0 m x 12 posts =7.68 cu.m.
2. For slab footing
Volume= 12 (l x w x h)
V= 12(1.20m x 1.20m x 0.20m) = 3.456 cu.m.
3. Find total volume = 11.136 cu. m.
4. Refer to table 1-2
Cement: 11.136 cu. m. x 9.0 = 100.2 bags
Sand: 11.136 cu. m. x 0.5 = 5.56 cubic meter
Gravel: 11.136 cu. m. X 1.0 = 11.136 cu. m.
