Retained Logic / Out of Sequence Progress

Original Plan

Retained Schedule Logic (Acceptable)

Progress Over‐Ride Logic (Unacceptable)

When using progress over‐ride the logic will be ignored hence the term progress over‐ride. As you can see from the

example above using progress‐overide will permit the drywall to finish BEFORE the studs are complete. THIS IS
IMPOSSIBLE.

Retained Logic / Out of Sequence Progress – (continued)

The CPM network is updated as of the Data Date. In the example below the Data Date is work day 151.

Activity A has started, but as of the Data Date the activity is estimated by the superintendent to require an
additional 5 work days (WD) to complete.

Activity B has started out‐of‐sequence relative to its planned Finish‐to‐Start relationship with Activity A. It is
also estimated by the superintendent to require an additional 5 WD to complete after activity A has finished.

Note that historical information (actual dates) are not included in the forward or backward pass calculations.

When using the retained logic setting the relationships remain in effect

Data Date = 151

EF= 155
Activity A RD = 5wd
151 + 5 ‐1 =155
Dashed line is
implied not
FS Relationship graphically shown

EF= 160
Activity B RD = 5wd 156 + 5 ‐1 =160
