LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

GRADE V

I. OBJECTIVES
 Identify rules in finding common factors of numbers using divisibility rules for 2, 5 and 10.
 Write the numbers that can be divided to form a product.
 Participate actively in the discussion/activities.

II. LEARNING RESOURCES

Content : Use divisibility rules for 2, 5 and 10 to find the common factors of numbers.
Reference : BEC-PELC II.F2.2 Mathematics for Every Use 5 pp. 151-155
Materials : Flashcards, charts and activity sheets.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill
Give the factors of a given numbers.

12 20 8 24 6

10 25 30 4 16

2. Review
Last meeting we talk about . . .

3. Motivation
Give number combination that will give the product of the following.
1. _____ x _____ = 8
2. _____ x _____ = 10
3. _____ x _____ = 15
4. _____ x _____ = 20
5. _____ x _____ = 12

B. Developing Activities
1. Presentation
Here is the chart that shows the divisibility rules for 2, 5 and 10.
Divisible by Method of testing the numbers
2 The ones digit is even number
5 The last digit either 0 or 5
10 The last digit is 0
 Is 30 divisible by 2? By 5? By 10?
 How about 15? Is it divisible by 2? By 5? By 10?

2. Discussion

Common Factor – a factor that 2 or more numbers have in common.

Example:
30 : 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30
10 : 1, 2, 5, 10
Common Factors : 1, 2, 5, 10

Divisible – means dividing a number without any remainder.

Example:
30 ÷ 2 = 15
divisible
10 ÷ 5 = 2
10 ÷ 4 = 2 r. 2 not divisible

Factor – is any of the numbers used in multiplication to form a product.

Example:
10 = 2 x 5
factors
30 = 5 x 6
3. Developing Mastery
List all the factors of each number using the divisibility rules of 2, 5, 10.
1. 10 =
2. 25 =
3. 35 =
4. 50 =
5. 100 =

4. Application
Divide the class into 2 groups. And answer it.

Match Column A with Column B. Find the common factors of the given pair of numbers
in Column B. Write the letters of the correct answer.

A B
1. 22 and 35 a. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
2. 8 and 16 b. 1
3. 10 and 20 c. 1, 5
4. 6 and 10 d. 1, 2, 5, 10
5. 5 and 15 e. 1, 2
