THE COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVE


Es usado para comparar dos cosas o personas.
1ra. Regla: a los adjetivos que tienen una sílaba se le agrega “er” seguido de “than”

One syllable adjectives: Comparative form:

Cold colder than
Cheap cheaper than
Fast faster than
Hard harder than
High higher than
Late later than
Long longer than
Near nearer than
New newer than
Old older than
Short shorter than
Tall taller than
Young younger than
Slow slower than

Example:

The cat is smaller than the dog.

My grandmother is older than my mother.

The bicycle is cheaper than the car.


OJO Aquellos adjetivos que tienen una vocal en medio de dos consonantes se
duplica el consonante.
Example:
Thin = thinner than
Big = bigger than
Hot = hotter tan

2da Regla: A los adjetivos con dos o más sílabas se le antepone “more”

Example:
 The lion is more dangerous than the dog.
 The maths is more difficult than the communication.
 Ayacucho is more populated than Huanta.

LO “er”, significa “más”

3ra regla: a los adjetivos que terminan en “y” se cambia por “ier” al final
