 (AC-S11) Week 11 - Task: Assignment - Old vs. Modern

Hello!

Now it's time for you to do the Task for this week. I invite you to check the instructions below.
Remember that if you need to review a topic, you can always go back as many times as you
need. Keep in mind that you have to present this homework during week 11.

1. Lesson Outcome:

Through this activity, students compare the old and new version of a technological device using
the vocabulary and grammar structures learned during the week. Then, they share it in a video.
(2-4 min).

2. Description:

 Step 1:
o Work in pairs or in groups of three.
o Think about all the technological devices you know.
o Each student must choose the one she/he likes the most.
o Look for pictures showing the old and the modern version of the chosen
devices. (To show them in the video)

 Step 2:
o Compare the technological devices; price, color, etc.
o Write sentences using comparative adjectives.
 E.g:
 TV1 is heavier than TV2.
 TV1 is cheaper than TV2.
 TV2 is lighter than TV1.
 TV2 is more modern than TV1.

Joubert: Hi Emerson, what are you doing?

Emerson: Hi Joubert! I'm doing some work on my laptop.

Joubert: Mmm... Really? You're doing that?

Emerson: Yes, Joubert. Joubert: Look. This is my favorite electronic device. In my opinion,
desktop computers are very cumbersome and very difficult to transport.

Joubert: That's not true. You can do a lot with desktop computers... but these computers are
heavier than laptops.

Joubert: It's because desktop computers are more robust than laptops. You can't compare
them.

Emerson: Why not?

Joubert: Because they are different. I love the performance of a desktop computer, especially
because you can put different screen sizes on it.

Emerson: You may be right, but laptops are faster and more efficient than desktops. Now,
younger people are using laptops because they are more popular in the market.

Joubert: In any case, desktops are better than laptops. Also, it depends on what type of
computer you buy, because now computer sizes have shrunk a lot.

Joubert: For me, desktop computers are more efficient and even cheaper than laptops.

Emerson: That's a good point!

Joubert: Nowadays, laptops are very small in size, but traditional computers never go out of
style.

Emerson: Yes, Joubert! In fact, some of my friends think the same way you do. Maybe you're
right after all!

Joubert: ¡Hola Emerson! ¿Qué estás haciendo?

Emerson: ¡Hola Joubert! Estoy haciendo un trabajo en mi laptop.

Joubert: Mmm... ¿De verdad? ¿Estás haciendo eso?

Emerson: Sí, Joubert. Mira. Este es mi dispositivo electrónico favorito. En mi opinión, las
computadoras de escritorio son muy incomodas y muy difíciles de transportar.

Joubert: No es cierto. Puedes hacer mucho con las computadoras de escritorio... pero estos
equipos son más pesados que las laptops.

Joubert: Es porque las computadoras de escritorio son más robustas que los equipos
portátiles. No se pueden comparar.

Emerson: ¿Por qué no?

Joubert: Porque son diferentes. Me encanta el performance de un equipo de escritorio,

especialmente porque puedes poner distintos tamaños de pantallas.

Emerson: Puede que tengas razón, pero las laptops son más rápidas y eficientes que las
desktops. Ahora, los más jóvenes usan laptops porque son más populares en el mercado.

Joubert: De todos modos, las computadoras de escritorio son mejores que las laptops.
Además, depende de qué tipo de computadora compres, porque ahora los tamaños de los
equipos se han reducido mucho.

Joubert: Para mí las computadoras de escritorio son más eficientes e incluso son más
económicas que las laptops.

Emerson: ¡Ese es un buen punto!

Joubert: Hoy en día, las laptops son de tamaños muy reducidos, pero las computadoras
tradicionales nunca pasan de moda.

Emerson: ¡Sí, Joubert! De hecho, algunos de mis amigos piensan lo mismo que tú. ¡Quizá
tengas razón después de todo!
