Grab always hires people with disabilities. But what we do not see is what they must do to work for
Grab.
One such example is Ross, who uses a motorized wheelchair. A billboard featuring Ross is on the
NASDAQ billboard.
Crisis: cultural concept
Communication emerged during WW2 to post propaganda.
Crises are not simply set on reality for example medical emergencies: crises can also be cultural (like
911 is the number you know to call).
Crisis is not a universal notion that applies to everyone.

Digitalization- A profound force to facilitate innovation, but categories as causing disruption leading
to crises. Also, a source of empowerment for disabled workers.

Like the word cloud, digitalization means everyone can post whatever they want (including trolls).
What kinds of problems become a problem?
What can be seen as a problem? What can be understood as a crisis? These are questions related to the
pre-recorded lecture videos.
Relationship between digitalization and social inequality: Will it improve or worsen inequality?
It depends, but inequality is not a one-way street. When something happens, some will benefit while
others will not. Map out the relationship between them, who gets the benefit at the expense of others?
We should not ignore the ways society works, which is a relational thing. Example- gig workers are
more prone to scams, due to the nature of their work. Telegram messages are the source of their work.

Social work attaches importance to empowerment and inequality. Can digitalization empower the
poor and reduce inequality?
With digitalization, services have been available to these people. Social work is a labor-intensive job,
like people with disabilities and need a lot of care. Where the care economy is concerned,
digitalization allows for manpower issues to be more well-addressed. See CNA clip on a robot setting
meals/medication for a 1-room flat. Improves the overall social inequality. But this is also not a one-
sided thing.

AI has been applied to many sectors and revolutionize how we live and work:
Has an unlikely effect on the job market as it is a new concept, we cannot predict how things will
change. Some things seem automated, but they are done by people behind the scenes. Unpredictability
usually leads to anxiety. This diagnosis means we can’t identify crises. Ironically, negativity is
positivity. ChatGPT is the number one thing thought to displace workers. For workers in third-world
countries and for freelancers, ChatGPT is taking their incomes away.

Links between digitalization and crisis?

When a platform that allows disabled people to work, it allows empowerment, but it also leads to new
crises.

How should we address crises from the POV of social

Can AI improve work instead of totally displace jobs?
Coding is a very rule-based language system, very prone to interference. Workers try to upgrade and
do courses, but then they do not gain any income this period.
