ANSWERS:

Definition of Syntax
The importance of syntax in linguistics is undeniable, as it is a core aspect of
language that facilitates the conveyance of meaning through structured patterns of
word arrangement. Much like writing skills, which are utilized in various contexts
such as crafting letters, reports, and messages, syntax is integral in everyday
communication. It is also a focal point of academic study that enhances one's
ability to produce coherent and impactful language. The definition and
interpretation of syntax can vary based on theoretical perspectives and the
methodological approach to language teaching and analysis. According to Maggie
Tallerman (2019), ‘Syntax’ means ‘sentence construction’: how words group
together to make phrases and sentences. Traditionally, Syntax refers to the branch
of grammar dealing with the ways in which, with or without appropriate
inflection, are arranged to show connections of meaning within.the sentence
( Matthews 1982 ). Jim Miller (2008) expands on this, Syntax has to do with how
to words are put togerther to build phrases, with how phrases are put together to
build clauses or bigger phrases and with how clauses are put together to build
sentences.
