CONTINENT
Ma’am.
D. Lesson Proper Ma’am, it is all about Africa.
At this time, we will be discussing
the literature of Africa, especially
its poetry. Ma’am, it is one of the continents of
the world and it has a rich culture.
Let’s have an overview or
introduction to the literature on
Africa.
Excellent, Group 2.
Africa
David Diop
Africa my Africa
Africa of proud warriors in
ancestral savannahs
Africa of whom my grandmother
sings
On the banks of the distant river
I have never known you (The group 1 will recite the first 10
But your blood flows in my veins lines.)
Your beautiful black blood that
irrigates the fields
The blood of your sweat (The group 1 will give their own
The sweat of your work understanding of the lines.)
The work of your slavery
Africa, tell me Africa
Is this your back that is bent
This back that breaks under the
weight of humiliation
This back trembling with red (The group 2 will read the lines and
scars give their understanding as well.)
And saying yes to the whip under
the midday sun
But a grave voice answers me
Impetuous child that tree, young
and strong
That tree over there
Splendidly alone midst white and
faded flowers
That is your Africa springing up
anew
Springing up patiently,
obstinately
Whose fruit bit by bit acquires
The bitter taste of liberty.
Exactly, Monica.
E. Generalization
Just like what you’ve said, the
poem is all about Africa. Class,
which lines from the poem caught
your attention? Why?
Go ahead, Jasper.
Very well said, Jasper.
How about the theme? Who can
give the theme present in the
poem? And then explain.
Go on, Marco.
