F. Generalization
The play “Death of a Salesman” shows
the final demise of Willy Loman, a sixty-year - (answer of the Students may vary)
old salesman in the America of the 1940’s,
who has deluded himself all his life about
being a big success in the business world .It
also portrays his wife Linda, who “plays
along” nicely with his lies and tells him what
he wants to hear, out of compassion. It
addresses loss of identity and man’s inability to
accept change within him and society. The play
is a montage of memories, dreams,
confrontations, and arguments. Willy believes
wholeheartedly in what he considers the
promise of the American Dream-that a “well
liked” and personally attractive man in
business will indubitably and deservedly
acquire the material comforts offered by
Modern American Dream that identifies hard
work without complaint as the key to success.
