PURPOSE: The purpose of this standard is to prevent injury and property damage when
conducting work at height.
SCOPE: This procedure covers cable laying, manual material handling,
welding, grinding, height work, and precaution to be taken during cable laying,
cable tray erection work.
Manpower:
 Helper
 welder
 Electrician
 Fitter
 Supervisor
 Safety officer
 Work in charge

GENERAL HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:


 Tool box talk to be provide priorcommencing any
activities to make awareness for the potential
hazard involved.
 All equipment’s and associate gears to be inspected and color
coded as per the site requirements.
 While using spanners, riveting hammer etc. at height should be
ties with a rope fixed to nearby structure as that it will not stop on
the ground in case of any slip.
 Only those persons who are skilled in working at

height should be engaged for jobs to be done at


height, person suffering from diseases ex. Epilepsy,
blood pressure etc. or addicted to drug/alcohol etc.
should not allowed to work at height.
 Every work at height person should undergone work
at height training and keep records.
 Every safety gears like harness to be inspected prior
starting work to find any defect.
 Proper access platform and safety arrangements
shall be provided for working and inspected
whenever required
 Close supervision shall be perform by experienced
supervisor.
 Mobile using during working time strictly restricted.
 Refreshment shall be made available for the
workforce
 Reflective tape on the every equipment’s to
improve the visibility to others.
 Workers must be warned about opened holes on
the roof .Any of opened holes without cover must
be protect carefully
 Workers are not allowed go up and down by
columns or others structures, ladder, scaffolding
must be used for this purpose.

POTENTIAL RISKS:
 Personal falling
 Falling material
 Collapse of scaffolding
 Fragile surface
 Overbalancing or losing grip
 Unprotected opening
 Sharp Edges, Pinch Points
 Work at height
 Hot atmosphere
SPECIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
 Fall prevention device, i.e. fall arrest system with harness and
anchor points.
 Rotating or sharing between internal and external work.
 Worker should wear clothing that over all covers as much skin as
possible

EQUIPMENTS (Tools & Tackles)


 Welding machine
 Cutting machine
 Grinding machine
 Electrical extension board with 30mA ELCB

PROCEDURE: (Mechanical and Manual material shifting)
 Shifiting of materials (cable drum, tools & equipments etc.,) will
be carried out mechanically & manually.
 After unloading materials are to place at work location.

Cable Tray Erection: (Fabrication & Erection of cable tray)


 Cable trays are fabricated and erected for the purpose
of carrying and supporting electrical cable between a
power source and an article or item of electrical
equipment.
 Cable trays can be installed in a vertical or horizontal
application as per the drawing.
 A support for a cable tray should be capable of supporting the
load.

TASK: (Tasks associated with cable laying)
 Provision of safe access and aggress, Before going to do cable
tray work
 Scaffolding should be used for working at height as safe access
 Limited manpower to be deployed for cable tray activities on
trench and routes to be identified and discussed with work crew.
 To preparation and planning prior to installation and installation
of a cable tray.
 Cutting of materials used in the installation of a cable tray.
 Installation and fixing of a cable tray.
 Operation of power operated plant for cutting of a cable tray
materials.
 Housekeeping of work place and work area.
 Monitoring of control measures in the performance of the work
task.
Task :( Usage of appropriate personal fall protection equipment)
 Fall protection equipment must be inspected by user and trained
person.

 Double full body harness that have been used.


 Horizontal lifelines must be made of steel rope 12mm diameter.
 Use C’ clamp for installation of lifeline.
 Safe access and egress must be provided to all place of work
including access to lifeline.
 All work platforms must have a top guardrail, midrail fixed at a
height of 1.8m.
 All work at height is properly planed and organized.
 The risks from falling objects are properly controlled.

Method 1:
 Welding of angles for the purpose of jointing/fabricating the
angles to make type supports to support cable tray
 Grinding for welded angles for the purpose of removal of
additional welding flex materials and sharp edges of angles
 Fixing of fabricated type angles in the installation of cable tray
 Painting the angles/channels with final coat
 Working of heights when installing cable tray
