Summary
Perform regular testing of drive-test UE’s

Preparations for SCFT consist of TSSR review, eNB parameter verification from
LSM-R, availability of drive route and checklists. Before proceeding to the site
make sure you have these

TSSR gives details about eNB physical parameters such as antenna height,
azimuth, tilt, pictures of obstruction, site drawings and map views

LSM-R parameters include details such as VSWR, Tx power and PCI

Ensure FTP and backhaul connectivity before proceeding to site

Cover all sectors during the drive

Quiz
VSWR is obtained from the _________

• TSSR
• LSM-R
• Either

The following must be checked before proceeding to site

• FTP and Backhaul Connectivity

• Availability of drive route
• Both

SCFT for one site takes _______ hours

• 4
•6
• 8
Physical Checks at Site
Measuring Site Co-ordinates
Check the battery of GPS (72 channel GPS)
Point GPS towards clear, open skies for accuracy
GPS Setting time >5 min & GPS number of satellites > 4
Low Battery voltages and rare Geomagnetic storms may result in erroneous
GPS readings
GPS should not be used for Ground Elevation readings as the inaccuracy can
be well over 30m
Stand in the center of the site location (GBM, RTT,RTP)
Once the satellites are acquired, note co-ordinates for N & W in degree - de
cimal format.
Update this information into check list for pre-post comparison and for data
base tracking
Checking Antenna Azimuth
Stand in front of the Antenna

When taking compass readings, keep at least 8m distance from any magnetic, metal, or current carrying structures
such as towers, vehicles, or cables for correct readings

Open compass and wait a moment till the compass needle is stationary

Check the antenna azimuth with reference to North & measure the value in degrees

Compare the observed value with the one in the TSSR

In case a mismatch is detected, make corrections on site

Mention the values in the check list for pre-post comparison and for database tracking
Check Azimuth – marking on map
Check the service direction of the antenna
Mark the main serving direction of the antenna on the map
Tower Height Measurement – Laser Meter

Stand on the edge of tower

Press start button and then press “measure” button

Wait for 2-3 minutes or check the ground or building

from the built-in binoculars in the laser meter

Press the “measure” button again

Take pictures of the value in meters

Tower Height Measurement - Tape
Drop the measuring tape from the edge of the tower platform
Team member at the ground end will record the value
Antenna Height – RTP / RTT
Antenna Height – GBT / GBM
Compare the value on TSSR with actual
result
Correct the Antenna Height if mismatch
with TSSR Report
Antenna Mechanical Tilt Measurement
Bring tilt measure in contact with antenna on the back side & center(①)
Adjust the tilt measure (②) to level off (③)
Check tilt of antenna (④), as per the picture red line is on 3rd mark from zero, w
hich means that the tilt is 6 degrees {one mark = 2 degree and consider the bott
om scale}
Compare the value on TSSR with actual result
Correct the Mechanical Tilt in case of mismatch with the TSSR Report
Mention the values into check list for pre-post comparison and for database trac
king
To change tilt, loosen all nuts, adjust tilt as desired and then tighten them
Drive Test
SCFT Drive: Stationary & Moving Tests

• FTP Download
Stationary Test • FTP Upload
• Ping Test
(for each sector)
• VoLTE call

• FTP Download (UE 1 long call)

• FTP Upload (UE 2 long call)
Moving Test • Clockwise & anti-clockwise drive around
the site
Drive Test Rules
Start field test upon completion of eNB parameter verification and after
implementation of any required changes

All three sectors of the eNB under the test should be active and without any
artificial loading (e.g. OCNS) in all tests

Conduct the test for all sectors of a site

Cover all important roads

Conduct SCFT drive test till RSRP of -108 dBm

In case of call drop, handover failure, etc. stop the call and find out the
probable cause before proceeding further

Possible problems that may arise during drive test: UE disconnection, GPS
problems, FTP server issues
SCFT Drive Test Tools Required
2 Samsung S4 mini phones with XCAL application
2 mobile phone holders
Battery charger
Extra batteries
USB hub
Inverter
Vehicle
Field Issues

If the drive test fails, check the system parameters & check the
alarms from LSM-R

Check the DM and connect again, perform the test

Check the FTP server: Capture detailed information like ping, call
test and call the server engineer

Repeat the field test if alarms clear from LSM-R and DM kit is
working fine
Ping Test

Ensure that the UE is successfully attached to the LTE network

Run Ping script/scenario in your Smartphone DM software

Stop the logging

DL Throughput

Ensure that the UE is successfully attached to the LTE network

Run FTP DL script/scenario in your Smartphone DM software

Verify that RSRP > -80 dBm, RS SINR > 20 dB

Start an FTP download with a file of size 50MB with a single FTP thread

Verify that the file has been downloaded successfully, record the throughput
and stop the logging
UL Throughput
Ensure that the UE is successfully attached to the LTE network

Run FTP UL script/scenario in your Smartphone DM software

Verify that RSRP > -80 dBm, RS SINR > 20 dB

Start an FTP upload with file of size 25MB with a single FTP thread

Verify that the file has been uploaded successfully, record the
throughput and stop the logging
Cell Coverage & Handover Verification
Ensure that the UE is successfully attached to the LTE network

For UE1, run FTP DL script/scenario in your Smartphone DM software

For UE2, run FTP UL script/scenario in your Smartphone DM software

Do the drive test around the site, clock-wise and anti-clock-wise to check both way Intra-
handover

If no proper route is available for checking Intra-handover, do a walk test around the site

Drive test for each sector is mandatory to check the coverage of cells and Inter handover
with neighbor cells

If there is any issue related to access (e.g. construction, road closed) please provide proper
justification with snapshot (Date and time should be mentioned on Photo)
Sector Swap Verification
After Physical site parameter verificati
on, conduct drive test in clock wise an
d anti-clock wise direction to identify
any sector swap
If found, take corrective action before
going for coverage drive test
If service-direction of PCID has
changed, Data Throughput
degradation and Handover Fail can be
observed
SCFT Parameter Requirements

Min Average Max

DL Throughput 2 Mbps 20 Mbps 40 Mbps
UL Throughput 256 Kbps -- 4 Mbps
RSRP -108 dBm -- --
SINR 20 dB -- --
