TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
FOR
CLARIFLOCCULATOR, GRAVITY FILTER & CHEMICAL DOSING SYSTEM

1.00.00 GENERAL

The technical specification of clariflocculators, gravity filters & chemical


dosing system is covered in this part of the specification.

1.01.00 Stilling Chamber

1.01.01 One (1) stilling chamber for one (1) DM plant clariflocculator and one (1)
common stilling chamber for two (2) non-DM plant clariflocculators of R.C.C.
construction shall be provided. Ozonisation of raw water shall be carried out
at stilling chambers by injecting ozone into the raw water by means of suitable
diffusers. Each stilling chamber shall have a minimum 2 minutes retention
time with respect to the rated flow through the clarifiers.

1.01.02 Stilling chambers will dampen out any turbulence of the incoming water.

1.01.03 Suitable draining arrangement shall be provided for the stilling chambers and
the drain line shall be extended up to the nearest sludge well/ sludge pocket for
final disposal to the common sludge sump.

1.02.00 Inlet Channel

1.02.01 One (1) R.C.C. inlet channel shall be constructed for connecting each flash
mixer to the respective stilling chamber.

1.02.02 One (1) flow indicator, integrator and recorder shall be provided in the control
panel located in the centralized control room to measure the flow in each inlet
channel. The primary flow element shall be Parshall flume type. In addition to
panel mounted flow indicator, local flow indication facility for the inlet channel
shall also be provided. Also integrator for totalized flow through the channel
shall be provided.

1.03.00 Flash Mixer

1.03.01 One (1) flash mixer of R.C.C construction shall be provided for the DM
system and one (1) flash mixer of R.C.C construction shall be provided for the
non-DM system.

The flash mixer tank will connect individual inlet channel at one side and
individual clarifier at the other. Water from the flash mixer shall be supplied to
individual clariflocculators through CI/ MS pipes with external epoxy painting.
RCC open channel shall be provided as alternate by-pass arrangement
connecting flash mixer to the individual clariflocculators.

Suitable isolation gates shall be provided at Parshall flume inlet, outlet and at
flash mixers to isolate any one of them and for change over and/or
maintenance.

1.03.02 Suitable mechanical stirrers (material – stainless steel AISI –316) driven by
electric motor through speed reducing gear box shall be provided in each
flash mixer to ensure adequate mixing of chemicals added to the raw water.

1.03.03 Stirrer blades shall be mounted on vertical shaft. Vertical baffles shall be
provided to reduce rotational movement or vortex formation about the shaft of
the stirrer and prevent short-circuiting.

1.03.04 Suitable sludge draining arrangement shall be provided for the flash mixer.

1.03.05 Each flash mixer shall provide a minimum of one (1) minute residence time
with respect to rated total inlet flow to each clariflocculator. The design of
flash mixer shall conform to IS: 7090.

1.04.00 Clarifier-cum-Concentric Flocculator

1.04.01 Total three (3) clariflocculators shall be installed, two (2) for the non-DM plant
service and one (1) for the DM plant service.

1.04.02 Hydraulic circuit of the complete clariflocculation plant shall be designed in


such a way that clear water from the unit shall flow by gravity to gravity filter
units and complete draining of clariflocculator shall be possible through
sludge disposal line.

1.04.03 Unit design shall be circular, center feed type, with concentric flocculation and
clarifier zones. It should have provision for introducing raw water and sludge
removal. Bridge type rake arm and vertical type agitators shall be provided to
ensure effective flocculation and clarification. The bottom of the clarifier shall
be adequately sloped towards the center and mechanically driven sludge
scraper and collectors shall be used to remove the settled sludge down the
sloping bottom to the sludge hopper.

1.04.04 Unit shall be designed with following retention time.
Larger retention time may be provided to meet the equipment guarantee : -

Flocculation - 30 minutes (minimum)


Clarification - 150 minutes (minimum)

1.04.05Tip velocity of flocculator paddles should not exceed 0.4m/sec.

1.04.06 Temporal mean velocity gradient (G) in the flocculation zone shall be in the
range of 20 sec-1 to 70 sec-1. Tapered flocculation (in stages) shall
preferably be employed

1.04.07 The overall area of the unit shall be based on an average flow velocity not

exceeding 1.2 m / hr / m .

1.04.08 Weir loading shall not exceed 300 m3/m/day.

1.04.09 The total paddle area shall be minimum 25% of tank vertical sectional area.

1.04.10 The rake bridge shall be constructed of structural steel as per IS: 2062 Gr. A
and agitators shall be constructed of SS: 316 and suitably braced to provide
rigidity.

1.04.11 Power supply/ control of all electric motors on the clariflocculator unit shall be
done by a rotary current collector located at the pivot point of rotation. Rotary
current collector shall be in the scope of bidder.

1.04.12 All parts coming in contact with water shall be painted with minimum three (3)
coats of synthetic epoxy resin paint resulting in a total painting thickness of 20
mils to prevent corrosion. Other components shall be painted with three (3)
coats of suitable rust preventing paints of approved type and make.

1.04.13 Design of the sludge removal system should be such as to reduce loss of
water during sludge blow off, within 2% of rated flow. Inlet portion of the unit
shall be designed to handle excess water to make good for water loss during
sludge blow off.

1.04.14 Sludge blow-off shall be effected by the static head of water in the clarifier-
cum-concentric flocculator unit. Sludge outlet pipe from the concentrated
sludge hopper shall be branched into main sludge disposal line. Main sludge
disposal line shall consist of independently manually adjustable Timer
operated blow-off valve with manual over riding facility along with hand wheel
to drain sludge. This is an intermittent operation. Continuous sludge disposal
line consists of a telescopic standpipe, the top of which is maintained at a
desired elevation to ensure trickle flow of water or sludge water mixture. This
is continuous operation.

1.04.15 Sludge from each of the clariflocculators, flash mixers, stilling chambers and
chemical house shall be led to common sludge sump as per flow sheets and
composite layout drawing enclosed with the specification.

Provision for flushing water connection in the sludge disposal system shall be
provided. The flushing shall be achieved by means of high-pressure water
supplied through sludge flushing pumps, located in filtered water pump house
under non-DM plant service.

All flushing line size shall be not less than 50 NB. Only flanged piping will be
used in sludge handling line. Tees shall be used instead of bends and
crosses shall be used instead of tees, with the remaining end blanked for
maintenance purpose.

1.04.16Suitable access ladder, platform, staircase, walkways, hand railing etc. (all structural
steel) shall be provided for approach to all the equipment on and inside the unit
as well as for easy accessibility to different subsystems of the plant supplied
under this specification. Walkway around the clarifier launder periphery and
also along all clarified water channel with handrail shall be provided. The
clarifiers for DM and non-DM service shall be connected by walkway.

1.04.17All civil work, namely raw water inlet channel, clariflocculators, stilling chambers, flash
mixers, chemical house, chemical storage area, sludge wells, sludge sump and
sludge pump house, filtered water storage tank, filtered water and filter
backwash water pump house, sludge thickener & centrifuge, etc. shall be
provided by the Bidder. All components are to be embedded in concrete work
and the rail suitably curved for carriage/ travel of the bridge, which shall also be
furnished by the Bidder.

1.05.00 Gravity Filters

1.05.01 Gravity filters shall be designed for flow rates as specified in technical data
sheets in Appendix-I.

1.05.02Filter box shall be watertight R.C.C. structure.

1.05.03 (a) Gravity filters to be installed under non-DM water service shall be
fourteen (14) in numbers (12 working & 2 standby). Each filter shall be
twin section type and flow rate shall be as specified in data sheets in
Appendix-I.

(b) Gravity filters to be installed under DM water service shall be three (3) in
numbers. Each filter shall be twin section type.

(c) The filters shall be of dual media type, comprising beds of anthracite
and graded sand.

1.05.04 Backwashing of gravity filter units under non-DM & DM water service shall be
carried out by means of vertical centrifugal pumps, once in 24 hours.

Three (3) vertical centrifugal type pumps common for filters under DM and non-
DM service shall be installed on the filtered water storage tank for supplying
back wash water.

Total backwash water requirement for each filter shall be limited to 2% of total
filtered water produced by each filter between two (2) successive backwashing.

1.05.05 The velocity of water during backwashing shall not be more than 30.0 m/hour,
when air scouring is employed.

1.05.06 (a) The Dual filtering Media shall consist of sand and anthracite. The sand shall
be properly washed granular, hard, durable and screened quartz sand of
effective size between 0.4 mm to 0.6 mm with a uniformity co-efficient not
greater than 1.75 or not less than 1.35 (approximately).

(b) The filter media shall be as per approved standard specifications of Rapid
Gravity Filters. Filter sand, gravel and anthracite shall have aggregate depth
of not less than 1.2 meters with sand, gravel and anthracite depth as 0.40
metres respectively. The sand shall be granular, hard, free from clay, dust,
vegetation and other impurities, and shall not contain more than ten (10)
percent of micaceous matter. The sand, crushed, powdered and immersed in
concentrated hydrochloric acid shall not lose more than 1.5 percent of Ca +
Mg calculated as CaCO3 and not more than two percent weight shall be lost
in case of sand crushed / powdered after burning. The gravel/ pebble shall be
hard, durable and shall not disintegrate under the action of water. The
smallest and largest size shall be 3.175 mm and 50 mm respectively. The
Bidder shall specify the size and thickness of each layer of filter media
(Gravel/ Pebble and Sand).

(c) The Anthracite shall conform to the following :

Appearance : Black uniform clean granules

Specific Gravity : 1.5 to 1.6

Packing Density : 800 to 900 kg/m3

Carbon Content : 88% (min.);

Ash Content : 8.0% (max.)

Size : 1 to 2 mm

Hardness (Mohs Scale) : 3 to 4

Effective Size : 1.2 mm

Uniformity coefficient : 1.5

1.05.07 The standing depth of water over each gravity filter shall be not less than 2.0
m.

1.05.08 The filtering rate through the filter shall not exceed 5.0 m3/hr /m2 of filter area.

1.05.09 The wash water gutters shall be of R.C.C. construction and the gutters shall
be spaced such that the horizontal travel of backwash water does not exceed
1.0 m. The gutters must be adequately sized to carry all the backwash water
delivered to it with at least 50 mm between the surface of the water flowing in
the gutter and the upper edge of the gutter, to ensure free from flooding
condition, The bottom of the gutter shall clear the top of the expanded sand
by at least 50mm.

1.05.10 At least 50% free board shall be left over the filtering media to facilitate
backwashing. The filter shall be designed to handle an inlet turbidity of 25
NTU with a guaranteed output of 2 NTU after filtration.

1.05.11 The distribution and collecting system shall be so designed as to give uniform
distribution and flow without channeling and obstruction. The under drain
system may either be of header-lateral with strainers or manufacturer’s
standard design, to be approved by the owner.

1.05.12 Each filter bed shall be provided with a rate of flow indicator and a loss of head
gauge. Each filter bed shall be provided with differential pressure indicator
across the load and high differential pressure alarm.

1.05.13 All valves of filters shall be manually operated and shall be provided with
necessary extension spindles and C.I headstocks for local manual operation
of gravity filters from operating platform.

1.05.14 Only valves shall be used for different process of filters. Gates in filters bed
will not be accepted. Inlet valve of the filter shall also be operated from
operating platform with extended spindle, hand wheel and penstocks.

1.05.15 All the instruments, which are required for the local manual operation of the
filters, shall be locally mounted located on the operating platform of filters.

1.05.16 Blower for air scouring of filter-bed shall be provided. The flow rate of air shall
not be less than 50 Nm3 of free air per hour per square metre of bed area at a
head suitable for efficient air scouring of filter bed. Three (3) blowers shall be
provided common for DM and non-DM system of which one blower shall

remain as standby. Blowers shall be oil free type and preferably of multistage
centrifugal type, electric motor driven, complete with silencer and filter duct /
pipe work, damper etc. The blowers shall meet the requirements of gravity
filters under DM & non-DM water service.

1.05.17 Suitable sampling points shall be provided at the effluent of all filters and shall
be taken to the centralized sampling racks for analysis.

1.05.18 A minimum of 500 mm free board shall be provided above the top water level
excluding slab thickness of the operating floor.

1.06.00 Filtered Water Storage Tank

1.06.01 Non-DM System

Filtered Water Storage Tank under non-DM water service shall be constructed
below the gravity filters under non-DM water service. The tank shall be of R.C.C
construction and capacity of filtered water storage tanks shall be as indicated in
the data sheets, Appendix – I enclosed with the specification.

Three (3) gravity filter backwash pumps, two (2) sludge flushing pumps, three
(3) potable water pumps and three (3) filtered water feed pumps (for softening
plant) shall be located on this storage tank.

1.06.02 DM System

Filtered water Storage Tank under DM water services shall be constructed


below the gravity filters under DM water service. The tank shall be of R.C.C.
construction and capacity of the filtered water storage tanks shall be as per
data sheets, Appendix – I enclosed with the specification. From this reservoir,
filtered water will be supplied to DM Plant with the help of three (3) DM Plant
feed pumps.

DM Plant Feed pumps shall be located in this reservoir.

1.06.03 Suitable overflow and vent connection shall be provided in the filtered water
reservoirs under this specification. Vents shall be of GI goose necks with bird
screens. Drain sump one for each compartment of size 1000 mm x 1000 mm
x 600 mm deep shall be provided. Manholes two (2) nos., each compartment
of size 800mm x 600 mm shall be provided. Necessary ladders, rugs, etc. for
approach shall also be provided. A chamber of size 600 mm x 600 mm shall
be constructed with opening in the wall for instrumentation.

1.06.04 Local and panel mounted level indicators, shall be provided for each filtered
water reservoir under non-DM and DM service along with level controller to
control the flow at inlet of stilling chambers for non-DM & DM service
clariflocculator units.

1.06.05 All necessary piping, valves, instrumentation required over and above as
indicated in the flow sheets enclosed with the specification shall have to be
supplied and erected by bidder.

1.06.06 Hydraulics of the raw water pretreatment plant shall be designed for 100% of
the rated flow considering the water levels in the filtered water storage tank
and in stilling chamber and also considering over loading features as
indicated in the specification.

1.07.00 Waste Water Disposal

Sludge produced from the clariflocculators, stilling chambers, flash mixers


under non-DM & DM water service, chemical house etc. shall be taken by
gravity into a common two compartment sludge sump. The sludge pipes from
the clariflocculators shall be routed through sludge well to the common sludge
sump.

1.08.00 Sludge Thickener and Centrifuge

From this sump, the sludge will be transferred with the help of sludge pumps to
sludge thickener. One (1) 100% capacity sludge thickener with two (2) nos.
100% capacity thickened sludge transfer pumps along with two (2) centrifuges
will be provided to treat clariflocculators sludge.

The sludge thickener shall comprise a circular rake with a heavy-duty drive
mechanism and feeding arrangement to achieve maximum solid capture and
thickening efficiency. The thickener shall reduce the volume of sludge received
from the clariflocculators in the pre-treatment plant and shall concentrate the
sludge upto a minimum 6% solids, for further treatment by centrifuges.

The thickener shall have diluted sludge feed introduced into a circular influent
well from bottom or sides, designed suitably for maximum solids capture. The
basic mechanism shall have inwardly raking blades attached to rotating arms
installed in a circular tank. The tank bottom shall be designed with adequate
slope to produce a sludge blanket. The thickener shall be of center shaft unit,
with feedwell and drive mechanism supported by parallel beams spanning the
tank. These beams shall also support the walkway, handrails and conduits. The
type and model of thickener proposed by the Bidder shall be of proven design
for similar application. The rotating rake shall be located above the sludge zone
with the rake blades suspended from the arms to thicken sludge. The clear
water shall be collected in a continuous circular launder. The settled solids shall
be raked towards the center of the tank to the sludge pocket for discharge.

The outlet sludge from the thickener will be transferred with the help of non-clog
centrifugal pumps to horizontal counter or co-current type centrifuges. The
centrifuge shall be horizontal bowl-screw type. The feed material (sludge from
the thickener) shall enter through an inlet port and tube and shall enter a
rotating drum. The solids (sludge) shall get separated by centrifugal force and
shall be collected by a screw conveyor through the sludge outlet port. The
sludge concentration at the outlet of the centrifuge shall be increased to at least
25%. The treated water from the centrifuge will be collected in a sump (clear

water sump) from where it will be recirculated back to the stilling chamber for
non-DM system with the help of 2 x 100% clear water transfer pumps.

1.09.00 Sludge Sump - Cum Pump House

The sludge sump common for DM and non-DM system shall have a capacity
of 600 m3 to hold sludge produced from the clariflocculation plants under DM &
non-DM water service.

Three (3) vertical centrifugal type sludge pumps shall be provided. Normally
two pumps will be operating and the third one will remain as standby.

Level switch shall be provided in the sludge sump to provide low-level alarm.
Low level in sump shall trip the operation pump.

The sludge will be recirculated at upstream of flash mixers during lean


turbidity period.

Details of sludge sump and sludge pumps have been specified in data
sheets- Appendix – I of this specification. Necessary isolation gates shall be
provided to isolate the sludge pump house to attend any maintenance
thereto.

1.10.00 The backwash water from the gravity filters for DM and non-DM system will
be collected in a common Backwash water sump, from where it will be
recirculated back to the non-DM stilling chamber with the help of 2 x 100%
backwash water transfer pumps.

1.11.00 Chemical Storage Area and Chemical House

1.11.01 This shall be a common facility for non-DM & DM system. For dosing of
chemicals in the clariflocculation plant under non-DM & DM water service, a
two storied ‘Chemical House’ shall be provided for housing chemical storage
area, chemical solution tanks, laboratory, pumps, MCC and control room. The
ground floor of chemical house shall also be used as chemical storage space.
The storage space in chemical house shall have suitable partitions sufficiently
large to accommodate at least thirty (30) days requirement of alum, lime and
polyelectrotyle (coagulant). The chemical house shall have sufficient
unloading space, wide corridors, office space, toilet etc. In the first floor of the
chemical house, all chemical preparation tanks shall be located along with
laboratory, MCC and control room. Suitable staircase, walkways, platforms
with handrails shall be provided to have clear access from chemical house to
different part of the chemical house.
For unloading, handling, weighing, storage and transporting the chemicals
from trucks to the unloading space / storage space at ground floor and from
the ground floor to the respective preparation tanks, the bidder shall supply
the following :

a) Electrically operated mono rail hoists including trolley

b) Weighing scales.

1.11.02 Lime slaking / Solution preparation and dosing system

A. Lime slaking tanks and transfer pumps

i) Quick lime (Industrial quality, 60 – 70 % CaO) shall be dissolved in


the slaking tanks and the resultant slurry (about 10 % W/V) from the
slaking tanks shall be transferred to the lime solution preparation
tanks by non clog centrifugal pumps (one working and one standby).

ii) The slaking tanks shall be of RCC construction with minimum 5 mm


thick jointless solvent-free epoxy lining with a primer coat of epoxy
screed with resin hardener and quartz sand and two seal coats. The
tanks shall be provided with dissolving baskets of epoxy painted carbon
steel wire mesh and slow speed agitators of epoxy painted carbon steel
driven by electric motors through reduction gears. The tanks shall also
be provided with level indicators, sampling connections, level switches,
drain and overflow arrangements etc., as required.

iii) Two (2) lime-slaking tanks shall be provided. Each tank shall have a
capacity to cater 12 hours plant demand of the clarification plants under
DM & non-DM water service.

Details of the lime slaking tanks have been specified in the data
sheets in Appendix – I enclosed with this specification.

iv) Two (2) non-clog horizontal centrifugal pumps for DM system and two
(2) for non-DM system shall be provided to transfer lime slurry from
slaking tanks to lime solution preparation tanks.

Details of the transfer pumps have been specified in the data sheets
Appendix – I enclosed with this specification.

B. Lime Solution Preparation tanks

i) Lime slurry from the lime slaking tanks will be further diluted in the lime
solution preparation tanks from 10 % W/V concentration to 6% W/V
concentration.

ii) The solution preparation shall be achieved by means of air agitation as well
as by recirculation pumps. For air agitation, two (2) nos. common air blowers
shall be installed in the chemical house and the same air blowers shall be
used for other solution preparation tanks in the chemical house. One (1) air
blower shall be normally operating and the other shall remain as standby.

iii) Two (2) non-clog centrifugal pumps for DM system and two (2) for non-DM
system shall be installed, for carrying out recirculation in the lime solution
preparation tanks.

Details of the air blowers and recirculation pumps have been specified in the
data sheets enclosed with this specification.

iv) Two (2) lime solution preparation tanks of RCC construction with minimum 5
mm thick jointless solvent-free epoxy lining with a primer coat of epoxy screed
with resin hardener and quartz sand and two seal coats shall be provided.
Each tank shall have a capacity to cater 12 hours plant demand of the
clariflocculation plants under non-DM and DM water service.

The tank shall also be provided with level indicators, sampling connections,
level switches, drain and overflow arrangements as required.

Details of the lime solution preparation tanks have been specified in the data
sheets enclosed with this specification.

v) Lime Solution Dosing System

Lime solution flow from the lime solution preparation tanks to the
clariflocculation plants shall take place by gravity.

1.11.03 Alum Solution Preparation and Dosing system

A) Alum Solution Preparation Tanks

i) Filtered alum (containing 14.5 – 17.5 % Al2O3 shall be dissolved in the alum
solution preparation tanks resulting to a concentration of 10 % W/V for
subsequent dosing.

ii) The solution preparation shall be achieved by means of air agitation as well
as by recirculation pumps. For air agitation, the common air blower facility
shall be utilized.

Two (2) non-clog horizontal centrifugal pumps for DM system and two (2) for
non-DM system for carrying out recirculation in the alum solution preparation
tanks.

Details of the recirculation pumps have been specified in the data sheets
enclosed.

iii) Two (2) alum solution preparation tanks of RCC construction with minimum 5
mm thick jointless solvent-free epoxy lining with a primer coat of epoxy screed
with resin hardener and quartz sand and two seal coats shall be provided.

Each tank shall have a capacity to cater 12 hrs. plant demand of the
clariflocculation plants under non-DM and DM water service. Each alum
solution preparation tank shall be provided with alum dissolving basket.

The tanks shall also be provided with level indicators, sampling connections,
level switches, drain and overflow arrangements as required.

iv) Details of alum solution preparation tanks have been specified in the data
sheets enclosed with this specification

B Alum Solution Dosing System

Alum solution dosing to clariflocculators shall be by gravity.

1.11.04 Coagulant Aid Solution Preparation and Dosing System

A. Coagulant Aid Tanks

i) Polyelectrolyte solution shall be made in the coagulant aid tanks


resulting to a concentration of 1% W/V.

ii) The dilute solution preparation shall be achieved by means of motor


operated agitator.

iii) Two (2) coagulant aid tanks of RCC construction with minimum 5 mm
thick jointless solvent-free epoxy lining with a primer coat of epoxy
screed with resin hardener and quartz sand and two seal coats shall
be provided. Each tank shall have a capacity to cater 12 hrs. demand
of the clarifier.

The tanks shall also be provided with level indicators, sampling


connections, level switches, drain and overflow arrangements as
required.

Details of these tanks have been specified in the data sheets,


Appendix-II enclosed along with this specification.

B. Coagulant Aid Solution Dosing System

Coagulant aid solution shall be dosed to flash mixers by means of two (2)
positive displacement metering pumps for DM system and two (2) for non-DM
system. Details of these pumps have been specified in the data sheets,
Appendix-I enclosed with this specification.

1.12.00 Sampling Rack

A centralized sampling rack for the entire raw water pre-treatment plant shall
be provided and this sampling rack shall be installed in the chemical
laboratory located in the first floor of the chemical house. Samples of water
shall be taken from the following points and supplied to the sampling rack :

i) Raw water inlet to stilling chambers.

ii) Sludge water from clarifiers (individually)

iii) Clarified water from the launders (individually)

iv) Sludge water from the discharge of sludge recirculation pumps

v) Filtered water from filtered water storage tank (individually).

The water samples to be taken to the centralized sampling rack through small
diameter pipes of polypropylene or suitable material. Suitable monoblock
pumps, if required, for carrying the water samples at the sampling rack shall
also be provided by the bidder and shall be located near the supply source
itself at suitably accessible location.

1.13.00 Overhead Filtered Water Storage Tank

One (1) overhead filtered water storage tank, shall be provided by the bidder
at the roof of the chemical house. The tanks shall cater to dilution water
requirement for various solution preparation tanks in the chemical house,
chemical laboratory etc. located in the chemical house. Also one (1) drinking
water tank shall be provided at the same roof for meeting drinking water
demand of chemical house, various pump houses, filtered house, switchgear
room & other houses covered under this specification.

For tank capacity, material of construction, fittings and instruments etc. shall
be as per data sheets enclosed with this specification and also as per the flow
diagram of the pretreatment plant enclosed with this specification.

1.14.00 Isolation Gates / Shutters

All isolation gates/shutters shall be drop tight and suitable lining shall be
provided of brass in the frame of gates / shutters. Wherever required, the
gates shall be adjustable weir type to enable to divert water in desired
proportion to different units. All gates/ shutters shall be manually operated
having hand wheel and gearboxes with penstock/ headstock for ease of
operation.

1.15.00 All chemical dosing system shall be complete in all respects including piping,
valves, fittings, all interconnections, instruments etc

1.16.00 A minimum 500 mm free board shall be provided in all the water retaining
units of the raw water pretreatment plant.

1.17.00 For carrying lime solution and sludge, pipe size below 80 mm shall not be
used. No elbow shall be used to convey lime and / or sludge solution, instead
tee with one end blanked shall be used. The blank end will serve as a
maintenance port while choking occurs.

1.18.00 Provision shall be made for suitable flushing of lime and alum solution lines
by filtered water from overhead filtered water storage tanks.

2.00.00 PLANT OPERATION

2.01.00 From operational requirement, the operation of the entire raw water
pretreatment plant shall be manual.

2.02.00 Suitable arrangement by adjustable timers shall be provided for sludge


flushing with independently manual intervention and adjustment facility, when
the pumps get tripped and / or not in operation
