Answer the given questions:

• How are the rules of etiquette for digital communication different from those of the

past?

✓ If long distance calls or several calls are made in localities, a permit to make

that call should be requested and paid.

✓ In the past it was considered important to write letters by hand, but I think that

today people have abandoned this practice since it was replaced by typing.

• What are some examples of outdated etiquette rules regarding technology that are

mentioned in the text?

✓ If it is an international call, it comes with an additional cost, so it was

necessary to ask permission from the owner of the house and thus place the

amount of the additional cost in the corresponding notebook. Therefore, this

practice is no longer considered necessary and practical, due to the changes

that telephones have had since they switched to mobile phones.

• How were men and women addressed differently and expected to address others in the

past, according to historical etiquette books?

✓ Women were treated very differently and had very different ways of addressing

others. I can say that men at that time were addressed by their titles, and

women by their names or honorifics such as "miss" or "madam", in addition,

women were always expected to speak to them in a refined manner and with

respect for men.

• How is etiquette varied across different cultures when it comes to greetings and eating

habits?

✓ I can say that the etiquette varies since it is carried out in different ways since

there is a lot of variety in cultures, such as in greetings and eating customs, in

Asian culture it is customary for them to bow before eating, in Western culture

When greeting, they are given a kiss on the cheek. A handshake is also normal,

I can say that eating habits differ: some cultures use utensils such as spoons,

while others choose to use eating with a fork.

• How have the rules of etiquette been changed over time, and what factors have

contributed to these changes?

✓ Over the years, customs and styles of behavior have changed. Before, it was

normal to have servants at home, but now most homes no longer have them. In

addition, now many wives work outside the home and adolescents have more

freedom than before, that is why life in the 60s was slower, more formal, and

restricted compared to today, since it is faster, and more informal.

Writing Skills

In my family I have noticed that over the years there has been a significant change in

the etiquette of the generations, which is consistent since many people tend to resemble, not

only physically but also in their actions, a relative who existed in the past generation. For

example, members of previous generations often followed more rigid rules about how to

interact with other people and how to behave in various situations. I can say that these rules

seem to have evolved since over time these things are aligned with the new modern rules of

etiquette.

The new evolution in family cultural labels have occurred due to the influences of

society and globalization, which has given us different cultures and perspectives. As far as my

label is concerned, I can say that technology has had a great impact on forms of text, such as

email or social networks, so because of all this, generations have changed and have taken a

turn for the moment. world quickly. I can say that as a member of the new generation, I have

noticed that we follow rules on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram or Tik Tok since

this involves us as a set of rules that are not written like those of our parents or grandparents.

So, these adaptations on the trends of current technologies reflect parts of our families

because mine has given them a world tour with the theme of modernism, and my era has been

influenced by digital.

how is it celebrated?

Meaning: Obon (also known as Bon) is an annual Japanese festival in honor of the

deceased. The belief is that the spirits return on this occasion to visit their loved

ones. Chōchin lanterns (made of paper or silk) are hung to guide the spirits and

Obon dances (bon odori) are staged.

How it is celebrated: Bon is a Japanese Buddhist holiday that honors the spirits of

ancestors. It is celebrated in August and includes traditional dances, food offerings

and family gatherings.

3. Are there any unique cultural practices or rituals mentioned? If so, what

makes them stand out?

If practices or rituals are mentioned in this celebration, which is unique since they

place altars in their homes for the deceased and thus be able to give them a good

passage to the next life, this highlights them since this festival, Obon, represents

them as a community.

4. How do these traditions differ from your own cultural practices?

They differ a lot since here in Colombia we celebrate the Day of the Dead-on

November 2, but we do not make offerings to our deceased relatives like the

Japanese do because for them it is a very special day and for us it is a normal day.

5. Do you have any similar traditions in your own country or culture? If yes,

how do they compare to the ones mentioned in the audio?

All Souls' Day: In Colombia, November 2 is a day of deep meaning and tradition,

marked by the celebration of All Souls' Day. This special date is dedicated to

honoring and remembering loved ones who have passed away, paying them
8

homage and respect on a day that combines religion, culture, and love for those

who are no longer physically present.

6. In your opinion, what role do traditions play in preserving cultural diversity

and fostering a sense of belonging?

In my opinion, traditions are playing a fundamental role since cultural diversity is

preserved and the sense of belonging is encouraged. These act as links that are

connected between generations, since they transmit values to us and keep cultural

roots alive, that is why by celebrating and respecting whose cultures traditions we

promote understanding and tolerance.
