KINETIC ENERGY
The energy of a moving object is called the energy of motion or
kinetic energy (KE). The term kinetic comes from the Greek word kinetikos which means moving. Kinetic
energy quantifies the amount of work the object can do because of its motion.
2. Speed: The KE is directly proportional to the square of speed when mass is constant. Therefore,
greater speed means greater KE.
POTENTIAL ENERGY
Another form of energy that is considered as energy at rest is called potential energy (PE). It is a
stored energy based on the object's position. Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) is a type of potential energy
that stores energy by means of elevation (vertical position). An object gains energy when raised from the
ground and loses energy when made to fall.
