various departments, faculty members, parents, invitees, and my dear students.
I would like to begin by extending my heartfelt congratulations to the incoming batch of
postgraduate students for choosing The Oxford College of Arts as their institution for higher
learning. As a proud member of the esteemed Oxford Educational Institutions, The Oxford
College of Arts is poised to only reach greater heights. Since its inception in 2006, the college
has offered BA courses with three different combinations. In 2009, we introduced two
postgraduate programs, namely, MA in Journalism & Mass Communication and Master of
Social Work (MSW). Subsequently, in 2013, we added MA in English to our list of courses.
With an unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and continuously increasing
our student population, we are evolving to offer a broader range of academic programs and
research initiatives.
We are ranked as 9th best college for MSW in Karnataka and 41 st in the country among the
TOP 100 BEST COLLEGES OF INDIA as per India Today – MDRA Best Colleges Survey
2022.
The last few years have been witnessing 100% results in PG Programme. In 2022 90% of
our students have secured distinction.
Our MSW students have been offered jobs in prestigious organizations like Saahas, Niramai
Technologies, Shahi Exports, Treda De addiction Centre to name a few. The College of Arts
gives due importance to both academics and co-curricular activities. The faculty members of
the department participated as Resource Person in various Workshop and Seminars
In the academic year of 2022-2023, the Department of Social Work at the Oxford College of
Arts organized various events and activities for the students. These included workshops,
guest lectures, webinars, and community outreach programs.
One of the highlights was the webinar workshop by Akshara Foundation on Digital Literacy.
This workshop aimed to enhance the students' understanding of digital literacy and its
importance in today's world.
Another significant event was the workshop on Trafficking in Humans organized by the
Talaash Association. This workshop shed light on the issue of human trafficking and aimed
to create awareness among the students.
As part of the induction program, the department organized guest lectures on various topics.
These included career opportunities in Canada for MSW students, the importance of personal
and professional self, the need for social workers in school social work, and the different
fields of social work and the role of social workers in different settings.
In addition, there were guest lectures on HRM and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work
specializations. These sessions provided insights into the professional practices and scope of
these fields.
The department also organized a rural social work camp where students had the opportunity
to apply their knowledge and skills in a rural setting. This camp took place in July 2023 and
aimed to provide students with a hands-on experience in social work.
The students also participated in community outreach programs and volunteered for various
causes. They took part in a petition drive on same-sex marriage, where they showed their
support for marriage equality. They also volunteered with Youth for Seva for their annual
project called 'CHIGURU'.
Overall, the Department of Social Work at the Oxford College of Arts had a productive year
with a range of events and activities that provided valuable learning experiences for the
students.

In the field of Journalism and Mass Communication, our department at the college has
achieved impressive rankings, securing 7th position in Bangalore, 11th in Karnataka, and
51st in India. Notably, Ms. Shreesha secured the 2nd rank from the Department of Journalism
(Bangalore University). All of our students have performed exceptionally well, resulting in a
100% academic success rate.

Throughout the year, we have provided our students with practical exposure through visits to
various Print and Electronic Media Organizations. Additionally, we have organized a range
of events and activities to enhance their skills and promote creativity. Our one-week
certificate program on "Filmmaking and Film Editing" was well-received, as was our two-
day short film competition and workshop called "Master Shot" in association with Bangalore
Film Academy.

We are proud to announce that our students have been placed in esteemed organizations such
as SYNC MEDIA (Guwahati), TRELL EXPERIENCES PVT-LTD, NEWS NEST (Delhi),
BRAND-COMM (Public Relations), and THE VELOCITY ORGANISATIO (Pune).

To further enrich the academic experience, we have conducted webinars and seminars
featuring guest lectures by industry experts. Some of the topics covered include
communicating better content, the multimedia industry, print media, and the scope of
journalism.

Our annual photography competition and exhibition, Fotographia, continues to be a

successful event in encouraging budding photographers from all streams. Furthermore, our
students have had internships in newspapers, TV channels, PR firms, AD agencies, and other
organizations.

To nurture talent and creativity, we have organized various activities such as essay writing
competitions, collage competitions, movie editing sessions, page making exercises, and
documentary projects.

Overall, the PG Department of Journalism has had a productive and successful year, focusing
on academic excellence, industry exposure, and creative endeavors. We are proud of our
students' achievements and look forward to another year of growth and success.

The MA English department has consistently promoted high-quality education and

encouraged students through paper presentations. Despite being in its nascent stages, the
department has achieved a 100% first-class pass rate. Workshops in linguistics and related
fields have been held, along with movie screenings and documentary viewings to expose
students to the vast realm of English literature. The faculty, actively engaged in research and
presentations at national and international conferences, provide effective guidance to
students. Eleven batches of postgraduate students have excelled in their chosen fields. Our
placement cell has successfully placed students in reputed organizations. The recent
workshop on writing skills held on 19th September 2023 was a great success, inspiring
students in creative writing.
