REVIEW OF LITERATURE

In exploring this study, the home economics strand may be perceived as inferior
to other strands due to several reasons, such as societal conventions, historical
prejudices, and cultural biases. Some people may consider home economics
courses, such cooking and housekeeping, to be less distinguished or significant
than science or math, thereby undervaluing the abilities they teach. Nonetheless,
home economics should be acknowledged since it gives people useful life skills
that are necessary for everyday existence.

SOCIETAL CONVENTIONS
n

The study of home economics serves an essential role in preparing students for
life outside of the safety and care of their parents. A Home Economics class aims
to prepare high school students for adulthood. The course would teach them
essential life abilities, including cooking, sewing, basic budgeting, and account
management. Home economics fosters independence and responsibility, in
addition to important life skills (Sigal, 2021).

According to Renner (2021) Students who study home economics in school will be
better prepared for the future. For the most part, other classes demand their students
study things that, depending on their occupations, they could or might not apply in
their everyday lives. Conversely, home economics covers topics that all students
should be aware of. Many individuals think that teaching home economics would
address the issue of the younger generations' lack of fundamental life and survival
skills as they approach adulthood.

Home economics education and literacy are essential for gaining knowledge and
abilities that improve a person's, families, and society's quality of life. As society has
grown, the needs of the individual as well as the upgrading of the topic curriculum
reflect the need for changes in home economics education because of changes in
families. The curriculum's objectives and subjects must represent and fulfill the
demands. In the modern world, consider the reliance on culture and social
determinacy in the subject of home economics (Erjavšek, 2021).

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study emphasizes the significance of home economics along with the essential
knowledge that we can apply in our everyday lives. This will help the students and
teachers to have a full understanding and measure their knowledge about the importance
of home economics in our lives and society.

STUDENTS. The students will benefit from this research by learning more about the strand.
This will give teachers and students information about the skills and abilities that the
strand offers. Conversely, it will improve their comprehension of the field.

TEACHERS. The head of the school and the teachers can assist students in developing a
strategy that will maximize the benefits that learning home economics can give. This will
serve as a guide for our pupils to comprehend the strand's capabilities in comparison to
other fields and can aid in their learning more about it.

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION. The authorities of the school ought to support and advertise
the benefits of studying home economics. This will give the pupils information about the
potential results that this strand may offer. Giving students access to a high-quality
learning environment and emphasizing their future could inspire them and get them to
consider the importance of this strand.

FUTURE RESEARCHER. This study will guide future researchers about the stereotypes in
the home economics strand. Society often views home economics as less academically
rigorous compared to other educational strands. This may serve as a source of information
about the inequality that prevents many students from achieving their dreams.
