“For every technical term I use that you don’t know, charge me a dollar,” said the coordinator of

the African Summit 2022 in their introductory speech. “Well, I would lose all my money because
I speak programming languages. They are the CSS of my life,” the coordinator continued. I was
envious. Because for me, code isn't just technical jargon; it's a language of creativity,
problem-solving, and boundless potential.

My fascination with computers began long before I ever touched a line of code. Sharing a single
computer with siblings often led to arguments – movie marathons versus my obsession with
typing random stories in Microsoft Word. Yet, one night, a simple curiosity about the capabilities
of "Canvas" (beyond just drawing) led me down a rabbit hole. An ad for the scratch application
popped up, and I impulsively downloaded it, mistaking it for a game. While the focus wasn't
exactly what I anticipated, it ignited a passion I never knew existed.

That initial course sparked a firestorm of learning. After earning a merit scholarship to Rwanda
Coding Academy to study my A-Levels, the next three years opened my eyes to the possibilities
of a career in technology. Here, I wasn't just learning; I was actively creating solutions. One
project involved developing a user-friendly web application to help money saving groups/
cooperatives keep track of their money and shares at the tip of their fingers and reduce the
cases of embezzlement and unexplainable loss of funds. Another saw me collaborating on a
platform that can be used near swimming areas to track people in the body and fight against the
ever increasing number of deaths due to drowning in Rwanda.

My hunger for knowledge didn't stop there. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I started taking
online courses in JavaScript, Java, and graphic design. The newly acquired skills went beyond
personal satisfaction. I started creating websites for local businesses, and the profits I earned
not only helped my parents but also financed a low-key 16th birthday celebration.

These experiences solidified my desire to pursue a degree in Computer Networks. It's more
than just fulfilling a personal ambition; it's about harnessing this newfound passion to make a
real difference. My background, coupled with the skills honed at Andela, has equipped me with
a problem-solving lens. I see technology not just as a tool for entertainment, but as a powerful
force for positive change in my community.

Majoring in Computer Networks will unleash the boundless creativity I possess. Through
rigorous study and practical application, I envision myself developing innovative solutions that
are not only effective but also prioritize safety and accessibility for all. I dream of creating
technology that bridges divides, empowers individuals, and leaves a lasting positive impact on
my community.

The journey from a kid fighting for computer time to a young adult yearning to create meaningful
software solutions has been driven by pure passion. I am a highly motivated, quick learner with
a proven track record of translating knowledge into tangible results. I firmly believe that my
dedication, coupled with the exceptional education offered by your program, will enable me to
translate my passion into groundbreaking contributions in the ever-evolving field of computer
science.
