Legalizing Abortion

Why should abortion be legalized in the country we live in? It has become a
serious issue especially to the youth as of now. Many women struggle with unplanned
pregnancy and lack of support from the people around them. They are forced to bear a
child in the most difficult life conditions. Yet, some still do not seem to understand these
situations unless faced with it. This is why we should be making legal actions to open
people’s eyes to the importance of abortion. It is not just about taking one’s life, but also
prevention to social causes such as poverty.

Women have been fighting for their rights in this society ever since 1865 up to
the present, and abortion is one of them. They are looked down upon their capabilities
as a female. There are also some that are victims of sexual assault, and are unable to
get the justice they deserve. Abortion is a choice that women should or will make for
themselves and no law should prohibit that. In a research conducted by the Bureau of
Health (2007), there are intricacies where the doctor saves the life of the mother than
the unborn child. Saving the mother, an already living human with a future ahead, than
the unborn child who is not guaranteed to be raised properly, abides to the principal of
morals.

According to research (World Health Organization, 25th November 2021) , that

around 73 million induced abortion takes place worldwide each year while developing
countries bear the burden of 97% unsafe abortions. The government issues the
shutdown of many health care facilities that provide abortion care to decrease abortion
rate. However, many evidences have shown that it does not help the situation at all.
With the many unplanned pregnancy, some cannot financially support a family. It is only
even worsening the poverty rate and overpopulation of our country.

One of the common causes of accidental pregnancy is the lack of sex education
and family planning in our country. People’s minds are closed with these kind of topics,
thus act impulsively, resulting to a bigger problem. Another controversial case about
abortion is its defiance against regional beliefs. Some Christians find abortion as a way
of taking an innocent life, which is not true. In fact, in Genesis 38 ‘Tamar: Killing and
Undesirable Pregnancy’ it was explained that slaughtering an unborn kid is important
when it is anything but a child conceived in a manner the mother’s society’s needs. In
other words, God himself does not directly state that it is immoral.

To sum up, abortion is a very crucial solution to society and the needs of many
women. If the law forbids it to be legal, many will suffer and affect the future generations
of not only women, but unborn children that are unable to grow in a safe community.
Personally, I believe that those who suffer with unplanned pregnancy also deserve to be
given a second chance to go on with their lives, without having to carry the burden of
child-bearing. What we are creating by illegalizing abortion, is the fear of fertilization
itself and unsafe health conditions.
